reservations just opened up. get em now before rates go up january 1st. two sites maxed out just cost me $75 out the door. off beach camp site right there for the 3 nights was $105 for just one reservation RV style w/ running water and eletricity. get em while the gettins good.

well, i did reserve 2 beach sites. and i wanted to see how much it'd be to have a RV site by the store on the way in to south gate. thats how i know the prices. anyhow here the number to call to make res. that way 1-800-444-7275 or go to www.reserveamerica.com just remember the overnight tickets keep going up anually and the price for sites stays about the same. so get em early. :pimp1:

Pismo dunes are forever changing...I've incountered some perrty damn steep hills over the years and TALL too,,corse Pismo is my only sand dune experiance so I have nothing to compare it with :uh oh: :burt:

The best way is to have a reservation, camping on a Holiday sells out a few months ahead of time.

And I have seen the creek on memorial weekend take water in the bottom of the door in my pick up.
& lost some firewood off the trailer, to the ocean..

Now I always plan around the low tide to hit the beach!

Well couple reasons. Ill save money by not having to buy food and what not. Its another weekend to work on the rig and a 3 day one at that. I have a lot to do still and Im not making headweight so I think it would be smart of me to stay home. Altho I would like to see the 6L and the rocklimo go at it. :uh oh: Someone better be video taping. My goal is to have the tranny rebuilt and the doubler in by mid april. That way I can back it out of the garage to do the cage work and what not.

we usually flag off as much room as we can find open, not really a problem; always plenty of room with 5 miles of camping area along the beach. (pic) the guy in the blue sweatshirt isn't going.

Ya dont need reservations, you just need to hitch a ride in with somebody. In your case, buy a day pass, get your quad onto the beach, dump your truck someplace semi-secure, or find somebody who has room for it on their rig and get in with them. Either way, when most people got their reservations, they have claimed 8 persons on their campsite, and only bring 2-3 people, so if you get harassed for camping, just claim you are with anybody you know who has legit reservations.

For those without reservations, who have rigs and want to camp.... WITHOUT having to drive off the beach and ride their bicycle back to camp at dark thirty (trust me, not fun), might I suggest the following (for those who dont know already)

Buy your good buddy with reservations a day pass so he can get his camper or non street legal hot rod onto the beach.

Help him set up camp, and borrow the truck and trailer, leave the park, load your truck onto the trailer, come back, and claim the reservation.

Get a camping thingy recipt with your trucks lic. plate on it, wallah, you now have reservations.

If somebody wants to get a truck on the beach for camping, I will help that poor unfortunate soul in this matter.

Other observations:

I noticed last year that they wont give window recipts to trucks that are not street legal. If you take your plates off of your truck, I imagine that you could get away with not getting fined $351 for illegal camping (if you are caught) by stating that your truck is not street legal, thus the person at the gate did not give you a recipt for a non street legal rig.

Oh, and have your paperwork in order if you have a bike or a quad, there is a line a mile long at the CHP checkpoint, they check out that stuff really good.

Everyone needs a OHV (green) sticker or a plate to run any motorized vehicle bigger than a briggs and straton in an OHV area, even the dunebuggies. They usually give my jeep on the trailer a Towed in Vehicle Pass, but they don't for a quad.

The day pass thing works for a second vehicle on a trailer :pimp1: as long as the tow rig has a reservation.

Knowing my luck, I wont get there till dark thirty again, once again driving up and down the beach tring to figure out which jolly roger is the right one, and find people who speak english who know what pole they are camped near.

I hadnt thought about the green sticker thing. They didnt check Grendel's Blazer last year for a green sticker, and the CHP had long since given up and gone home.

Worst case, if I try to sneak a rig into the park, I will ditch my Bronco at my buddies house in Grover Beach, and use my blazer to tow in the trailer with somebody elses rig on it.

Dogman is right about tweaker and I. Tweaker has 2. If him and I just take one vehicle down then he will have an extra. We just won't know for a while what we will do with our vehicles yet and what we will bring. I went to check out Pismo today and the creek was about 1 to 2ft deep... but there was a bunch of people getting ready to play this weekend. Played around in the dunes a bit and had to winch out some kids who got there 2wd S10 stuck to the frame rails...I almost ripped off the front bumper on the first try..opps(I told them not to attach the winch cable to the bumper) They spent about a 1/2hr digging it out enough to attach the cable right and it came right out. Then I'm coming out of the riding area and there's a bunch of cop's and haz-mat people..some idiot was making meth on the beach.

same thing as mine. Smog legal stuff. The one thing that sucks is having the tips under the bed. When going slow or stopped the cabs fill up with fumes. Could also weld on pipes out the side on my own.

At the State Beach entrance your reservation will get your tow vehical and your towed in vehical, a camping Pass for the days/nights on the reservation.
I like to go in the 2nd entrance. At LLoW Tide :uh oh:

they will give you a garbage bag, and warn you about the creek crossing and High tides. and something aabout hazzzards of sofffffttt changing saaaannnnd ...

If you watch the sand entrance and see if everyone ahead of you is making it to the beach. all the wayout to the wet sand (sea shore) floor it! you want a solid pull to the ocean, you won't want to get stuck at the entrance. make sure its clear, so don't stop.. drive down the beach south.

Never exceed 15 mph on the beach or within 50 ft of any campsite.
(the ranger will think your drunk, if you don't).

there was something like 27,000 acres of Full open throttle dunes to play in.

I air down to my preferred flotation of 15pounds per Tire. before the creek. walk up and watch the crossing for awhile, then go for it only if it's fordable. So far the story's from the locals this month, it's still eating blazers!! swimming from the roof, & $500 to rescue a rig going out to sea.

Camping begins at Pole2, the Club is Camped 5 miles down the beach near Pole 5 area. camping ends around Pole 7 where ever the line is now to save the birds.

of the story is dont plan on coming in just after dark with a 6 foot tide friday night. you will be wet and it will be up to most camp sites. You could go the back side but technically its still not the biggest tide. just sucks if you are towing and such. I personally want to keep out of the salt water. Its bad enough there with the salt let alone driving through it.

3. align and tighten current cross-over steering kinda done, death wobble style @35mph install king pin rebuild kit WFO

i sat on my gixxer 750 motor forever waiting on a rolling banshee chassis. finally sold the motor and 2 weeks later drove past a complete rolling banshee, no motor for $1200 :(

Any tips/tricks for the newbie pismo tower? I've never towed on the beach before... I'm hoping that the hard packed water line stuff won't be an issue. I sink like a rock at the hammers in the soft stuff :unsure: I weigh about 24k pounds loaded :blink:

Your right, stay close to the water but your screwed either way once you need to move into camp. IMO (and what I had to do last year) unload the rig in the hard packed, then 4wheel bonzai it into camp. You might also have to lower the pressure in the tires. Just dont go too lower on the trailer tires, it sucks to have to get the sand out. :unsure:

you can always leave your trailer at the High waterline, Friday night is the highest tide 6.33’

After long observation there are two ways to approach soft sand, when leaving the beach.

First way you will see is someone drive until they get stuck, then they will dig out & air down. Watch out he's looking for a tug next.

Second way is to air down and lock in the 4x4 and don’t get stuck.

Another good idea is don’t stop until your pointing downhill.
And don't go down a dune you can't drive out of at the bottom..
