How can you look and see if thats what I got or if I got a 60e? I think it's the 80 but here's what I have. 2001 gmc 2500 extended cab 8' bed. It has the eight lug semi floater rear axle. Everything I have for the truck make me think I have the 80 but is there somewhere to look for the ID Oh its also 6.0liter.

An ’01 2500 with a semi floater??? You sure? That doesn’t sound right. A regular 2500 in that year is now considered the “light duty” 2500 or ¾ ton. But I was pretty sure they still came with the 14bff.
I agree….that should be a 4L80E though.
Oh yeah...did you get a new rig and not tell any of us? WTF?? :flipoff2:

Hey nate I was always under the impression the only difference between the 2500 and the 2500hd is that the hd has ff and the other is a semi floater? I'm going to pull the caps to find out for sure, but from looking at the housing I'm pretty sure its a semi floater.
And its and 80 under my truck.

Negative.
The differences between the HD’s and the LD’s that I know of are:
1.HD’s have a heavier frame and have extra reinforcing in certain areas
2.HD’s have higher rated springs
3.HD’s ride higher than the LD’s (because the body is mounted higher on them)
4.HD’s have a higher GVW rating (9200 vs 8600)
5.HD’s have a bigger exhaust
6. for model year 2001 (and up to ’03) the 2500 and the 1500HD are basically the same truck except that the 1500HD only came in crew cab. But the drivertrain is pretty much the same.
7.After doing some research I think you’re right….your 2500 should have a 9.5” semi floating rear while the HD’s step up to the 10.5” 14BFF.
8.HD’s have more HP…with a 6.0L the HD’s are rated at 325 vs a 1500HD or a 2500LD at 300
9.Because of the differences in rear axles between the two I’m sure the 2500HD has bigger breaks. But in the front they’re probably the same.
The way I understand it is the newer (2001 and on) 1500HD and 2500LD’s are the equivalent (in GVW and overall towing power) to the older 2500HD’s and the newer 2500HD’s are equivalent to the older 3500’s.
Hope that helps…..

I bet the fronts have bigger pistons. Thats how they were doing it on the 88-99 trucks. For example 2500 6 lug had a smaller piston in the caliper vers the 2500 8 lugger. Yet they are interchangable.

Oh, now that clears this matter up, I still think my 2500 will tow my blaze fine but your right your rig does have more power than mine. But my cold air intake and chip should help with the difference.

I agree…your 2500 should do just fine. When did you get it? How much? Got pics?
I put a K&N intake on mine and I can feel a little more power and I see a small (very small) improvement in my mileage. Once I get my midyear bonus hear shortly I think I’m going to have headers and a new exhaust put on it. I’d like to get some better power/grunt from a stand still and some more improvement in my mileage. Then once that’s done I’ll eventually get the ECU reprogrammed rather than do a chip or a “programmer”.
Hmmm…wonder where/who could do the header install/exhaust work???

Nope no pics, but wait a week and you'll see it. I got it when I returned the Lemon truck and I got this one for 14,000. It came with 3 year 36,000 mile warranty ect... What are you getting mpg I just went to sac all highway unloaded and got 15, but around town when I stay out of it I get 9-10

Cool. Congrats on it...yeah, guess I'll see it in about a week.
Pretty much no matter what I do or where I go (city or hwy) I average about 13mpg. Granted, almost all of my miles are hwy miles. Even when I tow I still get around 13mpg.
I'll have to see what I get driving down to BF. It'll be the first LONG trip I've done towing the rig on my new trailer. Between trailer and the rig alone that's about 8900#'s then add gear, coolers, etc. She's gonna be a heavy sombitch!!! I'd be surprised if it didn't significantly reduce my mpg.

Oh gawd...I don't want to even think about it. I've got to go down to the bank after BF and apply for the loan that I'm going to need to pay for all the gas on that trip. :(
Yes....I'm sure I'll be contacting Kevin to discuss options and pricing for the headers and exhaust.
