I've sprayed my K5 in a booth with 2 stage paint. I camo'd it with spray can's in a driveway. I's now currently white a grey two tone semi gloss. It's all about the prep.

Shitty prep= shitty results :uh oh:

I did it in my garage and it came out looking O.K. The paint chipped pretty easily after wards but it lasted a while.

if you have to do it outside, dont do it in the winter, and dont do it in the afternoon. Ive found its best to do it in the morning, but not when everything is too cold. You want to do it before the wind picks up too. Like previously mentioned, prep is the key to a good paint job. If the body has wrinkles and dents that wernt fixed or sanded right, it will look like doo doo no matter how good the paint was laid on. Practice spraying primer first so you get the hang of the gun, and how to set it. If you decide to do it in the garage, drape plastic over the ceiling (if its an open ceiling especially) and plastic down the walls. Ventilation is good too, but the fan can cause explosions. Make shure you shut off anything that could make a spark. Sparks+fumes = BOOM.

well im trying to save some money, so maybe i can do the prep work and have someone shoot the paint. Ill be painting it a different color, and i need to get the insides too. I got a few spray guns, One is a craftsman and the other is a husky and never have used either. Should i pick a better one or will these do the trick?

oh yeah what is too cold? Imn thinking it not that cold in the morning yet :pimp2:
Thanks for the info guys
Oh ya i forgot, the truck is really straight no dents or bondo. A few lil dings but nothing magor. As far as prep work goes do i just sand off the old paint or shoot primer over it? Sorry never did anything like this so i dont know where to start.

Try searching on google first. Here's what I did the first time

Got the metal to bare metal
Shot etching primer
Then 3 coat's of primer
Guide coated the entire K5
Fix lo spot's/high spots
Shot 3 coat's color
Shot 4 coat's clear

Sand with 120 grit with the bondo, with the paint I used 2200 (IIRC)

Alot of work.

With the camo job I used a hand sander blasted the body with 220 grit paper, taped off the window's,and started with spray can's.

Right now is a little to cold to paint even here in Pleasanton. :p

Hmm...did mine in my garage. Sanded it down and rattle canned the whole thing primer grey. Turned out fine, besides it's a friggin crawler and is supposed to get scratched, dented, and generally banged around...right?
