The exgirlfriend set up and managed several of my web sites and blogs. I know nothing about that stuff. She is gone now and so are most of my sites and blogs.
Who ownes the domain name?. I thought I did but I am still paying fees every year to a regisfly.com.
Then there is a seperate fee to a company who hosts my site? What is that about?
And then I have to have software to set up my page to use with my host to post on my domain which is owned by someone else?
Do I have any of this correct?
I'd pay for some help learning this stuff. I want to get everything set up again and I don't want to make the same mistake ... I want to know how it works instead of relying on someone else.
Anyone know this stuff? Anyone know of anyone who might want some side work helping me out?
Thanks,
Eric M.

Then there is a seperate fee to a company who hosts my site? What is that about? Yes, the hosting company is the people that physically host the data that your web site displays, it is separate from the name.

Just about any web design software can be used to make your webpage, it just depends on how fancy you wanted it. Remember Domain is just the website NAME. Hosting is the company that lets you put the NAME you own, and the data you want to be shown when sombody types in that name. They also determin the available size you are allowed to take up, and howmuch bandwidth you can use a month, depedning on how much $$ you give them of course.
Do I have any of this correct? um...not really, but you'll get it soon.

Thanks. That answers a few questions. Any recommendations for a simple blog or webpage software?

Simple web page software can be Microsoft Word, or Front Page, or I use DreamWeaver also, but that's because you can do fun things with Flash using it and it's a lot more complex.
Blogging? No clue....
