SWEEEET
This year is looks like I will be going Via Hwy 80
So From Sacramento to Moab it is 883miles
Take 80 all the way to SaltLake City (645miles)
Hwy 215 south for 11 miles then Hwy 15 South for 41 miles
East on Route 6 for 152 miles
Exit # 180 for Hwy 194 and the final 32 miles into Moab.
I am going to stay at the SlickRock..last time that place worked out just fine and I know they have full hookups for my camper :pimp2:
They have showers and a store. In 2002 they had a swimming pool & hot tub that was running great..I assume it is still there
Don't have a clue were the rest stop will take place...?
YYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AMOAB!!!!!!

I second Burt’s route. I’ll be heading out via Hwy 80 from the Gay Area as early as possible on the 4th of October with everyone else. Looking to have a layover Wednesday night somewhere close to the Nevada/Utah border. Looks like Jason will be my copilot for the trip with a possibility of 1-2 more “stowaways” coming along for the ride (more on that later). We’ll be camping at slickrock with everyone else. Return route is up in the air. Depending on what everyone’s mood is and how the trip’s going…..might go the southern route with a stopover in Vegas or just return via hwy 80. However…this is TBD.
This is going to be a great trip!!! Lets make sure we have a huge showing for norcal at this thing!!!

Also on the I-80 route, I will be going out that way this summer and let you all know drive time from Sacramento to the 70/191 split.

Leaving Thursday morning at about 6 or 7. BUT, I may leave Weds night after work about 6 pm or so and drive till I get tired and pull up to a truck stop then get in earlier on Thursday so I can hang out with everyone for a while. I dunno, thats what I planned last year but it didn't really work.

hahaha Well they replied back and said they are first come first serve but if I were to make my res and then someone I know was to make theirs then they MAY beable to get the campsites near each other...but all in all it is not that big of a campground so no biggie...
I guess we are all on our own to make a reservation...
Ohwell now we know...

THere is a link to their site listed above in the first post.
I haven't made them yet....but I plan to ...kinda busy at work so...
barbastard
04-03-2006, 11:10 PM
ok.
I'll plan on making mine this week (probably tomorrow). But, whoever gets theirs first should post up their location so that everyone else can get spots nearby.
crewcabroller
04-03-2006, 11:47 PM
They do not give you a location when you reserve a spot. You just fill out the form and request either a tent site, an rv site, an rv site with full hookups, or a cabin. Then when you get there they put you in a spot. We have tried since the first BB to get placed together and it just doesn't happen.
Everyone just migrates to whoever has the most popular campsite each night.
If you all show up together, then they will place you guys together if there is room but if you show up at different times no dice.
barbastard
04-03-2006, 11:52 PM
Gotcha...I understand now.
Regardless...I'll be making my reservations this week.
Gonna get an RV spot with full hookups...that way I can charge my camcorder battery, play xbox and bring my blow up doll. :flipoff2:

04-03-2006, 11:58 PM
I usually get the water/electric only spot, no need for cable tv...
One thing is, it's really dark there at night, there are no lights in the park except at the bathrooms and pay phones. I'm planning on bringing some hallogen work lights this time, I always think about them after I'm there trying to work on the truck at night with just a maglight.
Also planning on a tv so I can watch the days video.
Burt4x4
04-04-2006, 12:08 AM
Yup mee too, no need for TV/Cable hookup. Kinda cool they have wireless network we can use, if we want to get online and rub some pics at the fellas that had to stay home :D
Man this working late stuff sucks.....I useually have a couple beers in me by now
barbastard
04-04-2006, 12:14 AM
Yeah…water and electricity is all I was thinking about as well.
Good idea on the work lights. I’m going to bring a halogen flood and some other ones as well. I’ve got a dewalt electric impact (as well as the regular electric tools) that I’ll bring too. Now I won’t have to bring my 13” TV since you’re going to bring one.
Maybe I’ll have the gas powered blender going by then. You can have a rootbeer daiquiri.

Just watch the noise, this park is noise unfriendly. It's alot better now, the old owners were terrible about noise, they kicked one guy out for working on his truck after 8pm. They actually made him take his trannyless truck outside the gate and kicked him out...
I'll bring a 27 or so inch tv. We can setup the lights, the campfire, the tv, and someone can bring a couch :D
barbastard
04-04-2006, 12:24 AM
Are they bad about the noise during the daytime? That seems a bit excessive to actually kick someone out. Did they give the guy a warning or anything? I can guarantee you, I would NOT be happy and would take out my frustrations IMMEDIATELY upon them if they were to do that to me without any warnings. I could see if it was like 1am and you're out there grinding and hammering, etc.
A couch huh....now you've got me thinking. How about one with a foldout bed? That would be a real classy picture. You might be a redneck if....you're sleeping on a hideabed....at a campgrounds....outside. :pimp1:
crewcabroller
04-04-2006, 12:30 AM
The daytime it's not a big deal but were never there in the daytime unless your so broke you can't run a trail and your stuck at camp repairing...
Basically all the yuppies in there motorhomes were getting mad about the noise and complained constantly until they kicked him out. You have to remember that your only a small part of the camps guests, the rest are just old people on vacation and tree hugging hippies there to hike that hate us and our big ugly noisy trucks.
I CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, kids….just made my reservation at the campsite. Got them for 10/5 thru 10/9.
Apparently in order to get a pull thru spot you have to get an RV spot with FULL HOOK ups. Otherwise, they just give you an RV spot that you have to back into or pull into. For full hook up they charge $28.34/day. Besides…with full hook ups you get sewer and cable TV. So, now I can watch Sunday night football while camping.
I told her (I spoke with Missy) what I was coming out there for (Blazer Bash) and that there would be other people making reservations as well. She remembered the event and was glad to have us back. I also asked her about grouping us together, she said it wouldn’t be a problem as October is their slow time of the year (she was surprised I was even making reservations for October). She said when you guys call up to make your reservations, just state that you want to be next to the “Nethers” reservation (I’m in space #78 apparently) and she’d put you next to me.
Post up when you guys make your reservations. GAME AWN!!!!!

Is this trouble that we are camped next to each other??? I can see it now….we’ll just put the keg and jockey box right in between the two sites and go to town!!! Oh yeah…btw….considering bringing a keg as opposed to a bunch of bottles/cans. Might be easier that way. I’ll have the jockey box up and running by then so keeping it cold will be a piece of cake. Any thoughts?
And yes…the jockey box will also be at BF this year. I PROMISE THIS TIME!!!

Adam. Nate and I will either meet at his place or mine and head out. Well or Burts. Well you know I dont really know. But either way Nate and I will be leaving from either his house or mine. And then meeting up with others to caravan. Nates about 15 mins north or my place so you wont be far off.
As a warning Jason with his like 700 hp torque monster and land yacht prob will be doing 80 once outside of cali.

All I know for sure is that we’ll be on the road as early as possible on the morning of 10/4. Where we’re meeting or whatever is way up in the air. I know we’re going out there via hwy 80. I wouldn’t worry about Jason and his 1100ft/lbs of torque as he’s going a completely different way than us. I plan on keeping it about 60mph or so in Cali and then going as fast as I feel comfortable outside of cali. Goal is to get to somewhere around the Utah/Nevada border by nightfall Wednesday, crash there for the night, then get into Moab as early as possible on Thursday. Check in at the campsite is noon.
My guess is we’ll head over the Benicia bridge and get on hwy 80 that way, then meet up with Burt in Sacto or something like that as he’ll be heading up to hwy 80 via 99 or 5 from the valley. But…all this is a complete guess at this point.
Man is time yet….nope…another 164 days left.

Alright... I had so much fun this weekend I'm really thinking about joining you guys on the Moab trip... :p
Kevin and Ryan want to ship there Blazers out there and I'm working on getting quotes on that...
I have just researched airline tickets (Salt Lake City is the closest at 230 miles north of Moab) and car rental. If we get at least 4 of us on the same flight either out of Oakland or San Jose it will be around $300 each for airfair and rental of a Mini Van. (yes I know, mini van sucks but we can fit 5 people comfortably maybe 6)
Any takers?

She decided to play "Thelma and Louise with her 17 year old friend and drive to Michigan. Flew in to Grand Junction Co. at 12:00pm and after getting 4 new tires - 1 qt of oil and food made it back to Pismo around 2am. Did I mention the 2 1/2 hours sleep I got before my flight? True….however lets just hope your driveshaft doesn’t break from trying to drive through such a large canyon. :D
For some reason the term “tic tac down a whale’s mouth” comes to mind…or “throwing a hot dog down a hall way”. :flipoff2:

What’s the deal on food???
Is it best to buy it in Moab? Or should I plan on packing my coolers full here in CA and just keep restocking them with ice from here to the land of the Mormons?
barbastard
08-12-2006, 12:21 AM
Also….Jaysyak and I were talking and have conjured up a little “game” to make the trip out to Moab a little more exciting.
We were thinking that we could have a little “scavenger hunt” with items that could be completed during the trip out and back from Moab. You’d either have to have the item in possession or a picture verifying completion of the task, which ever is applicable. Whatever rig or group of rigs (haven’t figured out the complete format yet) caravanning together that completes the most items wins ….something (again…haven’t got that far). Interested?
Couple ideas we had to put on the list were:
•Take a picture next to each state sign along the way out there
•Get a picture taken with a “mother trucker” (female truck driver), points given for each different driver taken with. EXTRA bonus points if the driver is missing teeth.
•Take pictures of hot girls (or guys….want to be sure I’m being PC for the women folk and “alternative lifestyle” people that may be on the trip) posing next to your rig (point for each girl in picture, bonus points awarded for level of hotness and pieces of clothing removed by women in photo).
•Get a picture of you taken behind the wheel of a big rig (point for each mooning)
•Moon someone (point for each mooning)
•Peel out or run over road kill (point for each new kill created)
•Create new road kill (point for each new kill created)
•Get a picture of a highway patrolman/cop posing with your rig in each state (or as many different cops as possible)
•Get a picture of someone else (RANDOM person) mooning or flashing you on the trip
•Point awarded for the lamest/ugliest/white trashiest item obtained at a truck stop
So…any takers???? Jason…did I forget any??? Is this lame? Thought it might be kinda fun…..could lighten up a 14-16 hour drive quite well……
crewcabroller
08-12-2006, 12:27 AM
Hell if you guys do all that stuff your 14-16 hour drive will end up 24-26 hours. I think I'll just stick to driving as fast as possible with as few of stops as possible so I can get there and relax in MOAB
As far as food, there is a Safeway in town that has good prices and everything you need. I buy my food there once I pull into town, but I only buy trail stuff like sandwiches. I go to restaraunts for mcdonalds when I'm not on the trail. Camp is like 13 feet from a kickass bbq place so why bbq in camp? :p
I have heard that the Booooze are not as powerful there as they are everywhere else but of course I have no personal experience, there Root Beer however had the same bite :flipoff2:

08-12-2006, 12:30 AM
Nah....won't add much if any time. Figuring most of that stuff you can do while gassing up, at a bathroom or eating stop, or while in motion driving out there. Or for the bay area guys during the layover Wednesday night in BFE Eastern Nevada.
crewcabroller
08-12-2006, 12:31 AM
Check my edit of the previous post.
Also, I usually just buy the premade little lunch things from Safeway for the trail, there a turkey sandwich (or beef, or ham, or whatever) and come with either a salad, fruit cup, or whatever. They work well for me since I don't have to make anything or take anything that is required when making something.

08-12-2006, 12:35 AM
Cool…that sounds like it will work well.
I’ll just plan on bringing whatever booze I want/need with me and whatever special stuff (pre-marinated steaks, burgers, chicken, etc.) as well. The rest of the day to day stuff we can pick up there.
I’m totally with you on the trail food. Less preparation the better. I might be down for some manifold burrito’s!!!! Those always hit the spot!!!

Well The road trip is all about getting to MOAB & back. I am all for screwin around as long as it doesn't ake any more travel time. Our pit stops will be drivin by the guy who has the smallest gas tank. Last time that was Greg. Every 100 miles we had to stop :chaz: that took two 11hr days or 22hrs + or -
I like J's method also but that is a bit too much hammer down so somewere between what J does and what happen last trip is what I am after.
We have to figure out were BFE is too for our pit stop Wed evening. That night everyone needs to fill up so we are ready to pound pavement after a few hrs od snoozzin :2thumbs:

How does this place look to stay Wednesday night in “BFE”?
http://www.koakampgrounds.com/where/nv/28130/
It’s about 600 miles from the bay area and about 360 from Moab.
So, assuming 60 mph it’s a +/- 10 hour drive on Wednesday and if we get on the road by 7am we should be there by 5 or 6pm. Then on Thursday we only have to go about 360 miles to Moab. So, if we’re on the road by 8am we’ll be in Moab sipping a cold beverage setting up camp by 2 or 3 pm and getting ready to wheel in “god’s country” the next day.
Sound bueno??? Thoughts?
Regarding the “scavenger hunt”…I don’t care what we do….was just an idea. I also don’t want to waste anytime getting out there…but as always….if something is worth doing….might as well do it while having a good time and laughing our asses off!!!!

Hey that is only 1/4 mile off the "path"! Nice! For me, having my 'house' on the back of my truck I can stay anywere, but if we get a group spot to fit us all, would be kinda cool to be lagit and all...toss some brews down our necks without getting hasseled cuz we were doing that in WallMarts parking lot hahahaha
Do we have any clue how many will actually be cruzing with us? I think Pacific Fab is trying to fly out...who else is confirmed as caravan buddies with us?

We can either stay at that KOA or after a little research I’ve found that there are actually a couple nice hotel/casino’s with moderately priced rooms that we could stay at as well.
Check out the link here:
http://www.wendoverfun.com/main.html
I’m down for which ever is going to be less expensive and would be the safest to have our rigs left outside at. But….I will have to say….the thought of NOT having to set up a tent after 10-11 hours of driving AND being able to go get a little buffet action and a couple quick games of blackjack in before I hit the sack is mighty tempting!!!!
Man…I CAN’T wait for MOAB!!!!!

hahahahaa Good to see I am not the only one that gets a lil crazy about MOAB!!! Matter of fact I am looking thru my Moab trail guide book right now! From what I recall we did 3 trails all markes as black diamond =
Steel Bender
Hell's Revenge
Gold Bar Rim
My self and Tori also did Lion's Back (not a trail just an obstical near Hell's Ravenge)
There are 19 black diamod trails. According to this book Behind The Rocks is the most difficult followed by Pritchett Canyon comming in 2nd. Hells Ravenge is rate 5th in the most difficult...shit my rig SPANKED Hells Ravenge! hahahaha

Cracker, your truck would be fun on Hells Revenge, you'd walk everything with the wheelbase and no front locker needed.
If you go to blazerbash.com you can see the trail lineup so far that we have figured out.

This book doesn't have U-Helldorado or Coyote in it :(
And I din't mean HRevenge was rated a 5 I ment it is 5th on the list. See the book list the trails in order by how difficult then are and on this list Behind the Rocks is listed as #1 followed by Pritchet then Golden Spike, Moad Rim then Hells Rev.....
So you gonna show us around or just gonna split to hang with the Super Modified crowd? :argue:
I agree this book is not for the extreem wheeler so the guy who wrote it was probly in a Jeep

I know. My main concern when changing jobs was that it just happen. I was so stressed and happy all at the same time it was weird. And honestly it was a change that needed to happen. I would not in a million years wish to be back at the old job only so that I was able to go to moab. If not being able to go to moab is a price I have to pay for having a new better job that helps me live better in the long run then so be it. Who knows, maybe next year Ill be right along all you guys forking over bucks to tow my rig out there.
I am deeply sadened that I cant go. I was really looking forward to a road trip with everyone. It would of be good times and something Ive been wanting to do for years. Its just going to have to wait some more. You guys best have a good time and take a bunch of pics.

Maybe we can make a cardboard cut out of you and take it along with us  ?
