Layover locations and accomodations for hwy 80 folks

Ok, guys…we need to make a decision and get our reservations in on where we’re going to stay in Wendover on the night of 10/4. I did a little calling around this afternoon about possible layover spots in Wendover Nevada and I think our best bet is to stay at either the Peppermill, Rainbow or Montego Bay casino/hotels.

Rooms are $54.95 a night and we can get two queen size beds in each room plus floor space. There’s plenty of safe, secure parking for our tow rigs and trailers plus RV’s/campers (Burt, Kevin) can park in the main lot or the RV parking lot across the street…all for free. Plus, there’s gambling, restaurants, bars, etc. All 3 casinos’s are within walking distance to each other.

I also called KOA campgrounds (http://www.koakampgrounds.com/where/nv/28130/). They charge $31.96 for an RV pull through space but for us guys that are towing their rigs and don’t have a camper we’d have to set up a tent. Unfortunately, their RV spaces don’t have room for a tent and their tent spaces can’t accommodate a pickup and trailer. So…..we’d be assed out. Plus, they’re like 2 miles from the casinos and we’d have to still make dinner, set up a tent, etc. after driving 10-12 hours, not to mention breaking camp and packing back up early the next morning. I for one don’t want to do that…I’d just like to unload whatever gear I need from the pick up, check in, grab some beers and some grub, play some black jack and then hit sack. Then wake up the next morning and get going.

So…..my vote is for the casinos. We could probably fit 2-6 maybe 8 people in one room if we had to. I used to do it all the time in college when going on road trips with my buddies.

What do you guys think?

The other question that’s still out there is where do we want to stop on the way back? In Wendover again? Or should we stop at about the half way point which is Elko?

That was my plan when I was going solo, that would be half way for me but little too far for them.
Wendover is fine by me and I would stay in a hotel with wife and kid.
I will be using my camper enough later, I don't come back from MOAB, I continue to Durango CO then Yellowstone Park WY for a nice 10 day road trip.

Um…..ok so no one has really replied :unsure: . I guess I’ll book a room at one of the casinos and everyone else can do whatever they want. I’ll get a room with double queen beds and if anyone else wants to crash in the room too and split the costs let me know.

I have a feeling i'm only going to be interested in eating and sleeping once we find our rest stop.
Hopefully we can find a parking spot big enough for all our rigs and then i'll just nap in kevins camper or on the back of my flatbed so we can keep an eye on the rigs. :p

I was thinking about trying to find out where "junkyard alley" is between nevada and utah, we can sleep in the parking lot and be getting up right when the yards open so we can snatch us some D60's on the way to moab. :D

Are we still getting points for pictures next to toothless female truck drivers, & stuff? :D

Geeze Nate, dont you know some of us are going to wait untill the day before to get prepared :rolleyes: I have a hard time planning whats for my next meal, not to mention a few weeks off :blink: I thank you for being our den mother for this trip. :beer: Now if I bring the camper, Hella G (Burt) and I will be shacking up out side your room, if not Im spooning with you after a few jack and cokes and a few hands of black jack :beer:

Ok….glad to get some input. I’d love to save some $$$ and not get a hotel room but sleeping in my truck is just not an option and it sounds as if KOA won’t work either. So…I’m stuck getting a room. I’ll book a room and as the time gets closer anyone that needs to can crash in the room and we’ll work the $$$ out then. These casinos sound like they’ve got plenty of parking and are safe. It’ll be even better if you guys are sleeping in your campers right next to all the rigs. :sniper:

Yeah…I tend to be a bit a bit of a planner :rolleyes: . That’s a byproduct of my dad’s upbringing, Boy Scouts, my time (albeit brief) in the Air Force, and my profession. Besides, I’ve got so much shit going on right now I HAVE to spread my “to do list” out over as many weeks as possible or else I don’t get shit done.

So….I guess we’ll plan on staying in Wendover on the way back too? Or do we want to go halfway home and stay in Elko so you single guys can get a “happy ending :mrhumpy: ” at the local establishments that Cracker referred to above?

Well, that’s what they told me. I also asked if it was ok for you guys to stay in your campers back there and the guy said no problem.

when talking to the guy there did you get a sense of how busy they would be? I told someone I was going and he told me that that town can get booked quick. Not sure yet what I will be doing over night yet.

Nope didn't really ask him that. I know between the three hotels/casinos that that company manages (peppermill, montego bay and the rainbow :rainbow1: ) they've got like 800 to 1000 rooms and I'm sure that they're not the only ones in town. So, I'm sure you can find a place to stay. :beer:
