View Full Version : replacing saddle bag tanks w/ 1 rear tank, need info

hey guys, I need some info. I want to replace the 2 saddle bags tanks with 1 rear tank. The truck in question is a 89 chevy Crewcab 4x4 single wheel. The tanks on there now hold 20 gallons each.
I imagine that i would be putting the single tank where the spare tire is located. Can I use a surburban tank? what do i need to hold it in place? I guess ill need a longer filler hose. any info is much appreciated

Just fab up some straps to hold it in place or get the straps that came with the burb tanks. You'll also need longer fule lines and a totally different filler location. Something in th bed would be easier than cutting a new hole in the bedside. Why are you swapping them out anyways?

well im going to shorten the frame to fit a 6 foot bed and by doing that i think the springs are going run right into em, or so i have been told. The other thing is that the tanks hang alil over an inch past the body and im afraid there gonna get pretty banged up.
Hmm perhaps it would be better to get shorter tanks, and maybe get some tube to protect the tanks and act as a step bar like a thinner nerf bar.

put a fuel cell in the bed, save your time. the fab work to build in a single tank is rough and unless you have a body lift or alot of suspension the rear the diff will flex very close to the tank. i'm still working on finishing my swap on an '88 silverado. kinda would suck to lose the bed space though.
