soo i was driving this pile (94k1500 suburban), when the park lights, instrument cluster light went out. at first i thought it was the switch, so i jigle it and wigle it. nope. then maybe i thought the fuse had blow, so i finally pull over the gas station. low and behold i find that my fusebox is half melted, i was actually amazed on how the truck was still running.
now fast forward, i just spent half a day replacing it, had to cut and solder many wires, and i could not pull the fuse box far enouh, so i had to do it while crawling under the dash. now i noticed the prklmps had a 30 amp fuse, while the new/used fuse box i got called for a 20 amp. :argue:
damit it must have had problem blowing fuse so the old owner decided to runa 30 amp.
all fix now, never did found the short, my guess is that his alarm was shoring it out. but i removed that when i removed the old fuse box.

on a lighter note, i went to the stealership, in guessing that piece could not cost much, boy was i wrong.
discontnued, and if they could get it, it would be $500+ as it would come with the whole wiring harness.

now i hate to ask what else could go wrong.

i'll take pic and post the burned box if you guys want.
