So I aint got the money to buy any kind of locker for the front right now. Should I just weld it up and go play? I will have crossover and hydro assist so I dont think steering should be too much of an issue.

BONZAI!

Welded diffs are cool and fun and environmentally friendly! :dance:

My recipe for welding diffs:

Step 1: :drunk:
Step 2a: :welder: on full power "I'm given er all shes gawt keptain"
Step 2b: Weld until a big spider nugget is achieved, hehe Spider nugget
Step 3: :tongue4: at all the open diff folks
Step 4: :poke: Taunt your friends who are non-diff-welding pussies

Welded Diff Visa Commercial

ARB = 900 duckets
Detroit = 700 duckets
Welding Wire = priceless

Is your 60 35 spline all the way to the hubs? If it is, and it's only temporary, I'd say do it. If it's 30 spline still, or you don't plan on a Detriot, ARB, etc sometime soon, I wouldn't. You have a gonzo driving style... 30 spline stuff wouldn't last long at all, and I think I'd even worry about the stock Spicer 35 spline stuff in the long term.

what the hell do you have a winch for. use yur foot till you get stuck with that open front diff and winch yourself to freedom. with the meats you're gonna be pushing i doubt you'll have much use for the winch anyhow. Bonzai=more skinny pedal. plus its fun to watch

it's not about how far you make it. it's about the stories you bring home. plus D60 no wanna breaky first time out like D44

I've seen em on the web for that much, and as little as what you say you got yours for, didn't say I bought one. :flipoff2: Wasn't my point.

It ain't what ya got its how ya wheel it in my opinion. I don't see the point in spending a shitload of cash on parts if you don't need to. So far my welded shit has worked out just fine, on my rig and my buddies Toyota.

The point that Joe is fighting, atleast for me, is that IF I were to weld my front, I would break shafts or joints. With me its not a question of what I break more of when I break. Its going to happen with me. :blink:

I ran a welded loc rite in my 44 for a few trips. I changed a few shafts on those trips. :crazy:

CaptainInsano

Haven't seen you drive, but if you are worried about breaking Dana60s I guess I want to. :thumb:

You welded up a LockRite? hehe sweet. I have a LockRite in my 12 bolt, wish I had welded that too, although I was driving on the street at the time.

I've yet to bust a shaft in my 10bolt or 12 bolt, but I carry lots o spares on the trail. I figured I would have grenaded that lock rite by now or busted a u-joint or something. :knocking on wood: I try to stay off the skinny on the rocks, but doesn't ever work out that way too much.

jays68yak

yep broke the loc rit. Then welded it on the beach. Then a trip or two later broke one of the welds.

maybe the first time out run it open see how it does if not find at least another carrier for a replacement and weld the diff up so if it breaks at least you have a replacement. i would weld in there more then that so it really holds together

For our viewing enjoyment…..weld it. :p

For YOUR wheeling enjoyment….DON’T weld it.

I think you’ll be breaking too much stuff and too often if you weld it. Which I think will lead to more frustration, anger and $$$$ over the long run. So, like tweaker said….keep it open (which will minimize damage), bomb it, and use the winch if you need to. You’ll be fine.

Honestly, with my eaton e-locker up front I engaged maybe 5 times the whole time on my Bday wheeling trip. Each one of those times it was engaged for maybe 30 seconds, just long enough to get through the obstacle.

So you really feel like changing shit in the middle of the trail when your stub shafts start a breaking..which it turn might take out the locking hubs too..The chit isnt cheap and will run you more $$$$$$$$$ in the long run..

No you can run it on your own, it's just easier to hook to another truck then getting out the tree saver and all that. But if you want to run it around Thanksgiving go for it! And get some good video. I'll try and take care of that "issue" before your thanksgiving trip :pimp2:

I’m down.

If I go to HH for turkey day (and not up to the sierra’s to play around) I’ll run it.

Still undecided as to where I’m going. Weather forecast isn’t calling for any snow (currently) over the next 15 days. HH is even supposed to be in the high 60’s to mid 70’s next week during the day and Truckee is only supposed to get down into the mid to high 20’s at night. What the hell???? I want some nasty weather to come….I WANT TO GO PLAY IN THE SNOW!!!!

The ram is sitting on my desk at home. I have everything but mounts and adapters for the hose to the ram. I ordered some adapters from mcmaster and should see them tomorrow.
Tonight I was going to try to get the passanger side axle shaft in and brakes hooked up. Trying to get the little things done during the week and then tackle the bigger more involved stuff over the weekend.
