Anybody have any experience with either? Seems like its hard to go wrong with either of them, but the arms on the 105HD are slightly thicker. Either will be converted to air over hydro with the ram thats coming and be using a 1.75" 5.5" bend radius die if it matters.

IMO you should buy one that will work with the dies that everyone else has. Then you can borrow thier dies. Or I can borrow your bender.

Thats not bad input on the die's, but totally depends on a) people's willingness to trade or let people borrow and b) if anybody even has any. Anybody fit either of those categories?

oh I just so happen to have a JD2 1.75" die. I think its the 5.5 could be the 6.5, but really want to say its a 5.5.

Well I went with the Pro-Tools 105HD and it had ot be hydro for lack of mounting puposes so this is what it ended up like:

I bought the manual bender from Mike Green, hydro parts from Northerntool.com and the steel from Simms. Cost was something like $1400 with all parts and materials.

My exact setup isn't exactly commercially avaliable in a kit :uh oh:

I was going to put it to work today but its been sprinkling and really windy so I have to wait :(

Are those pics of YOUR bender......???

I've seen those pics on OFN, and didn't realize they belonged to someone here.

I already own the MB105HD and was looking to do a hydro conversion....

may have to pick your brain a little.

oh you got the plans from Doug huh? (muck) He is a good guy, haven't talked to him in awhile. He was building a Malvado Grande last time I checked.

I got the idea for the air over hydro from Mucknet definitely but the elec/hydro I built in the end was designed from some stuff Id seen over on offroadfabnet.

I did build it, ask away over here or over there if you like.

I'd take the electric over air anyday just for convenience. Looks damn nice.

OK......you asked for it!!! :D

You mention above that it's a 30-second cycle. Are you referring to the full time involved to bend to 90* and retract?

Did you source your parts from Northern Tool, like a lot of folks?

I did some quick pricing of components from the part numbers in Cebby's 13-page writeup (looks similar to yours) and found the following:

Hydraulic Pump (p/n #105871) - 1HP/115/230V, 1.5 Gal Reservoir, 1.25gpm, 2000 psi - $429.00
4-Way Control Valve (p/n #2010) - 1000 to 3000 psi 3/4" inlet/outlet - $80.00
Hydraulic Cylinder (p/n #992031) - 3000 psi, 24-inch stroke, 3" Bore - $160.00

(or)

Hydraulic Cylinder (p/n #992010) - 2500 psi, 24-inch stroke, 3" Bore - $115.00

Is there any benefit to using a ram with a higher psi rating than what the pump can provide? Or do you need to have one rated larger than the pump for a margin of safety?

Anyway....that's it for now. Just wanted to bounce those prices and model #'s off you and see if those are consistent with what you paid for the various "big ticket" items in the build.

I did buy them through NorthernTool.com, prices look about right.

I went with the 3000 psi ram simply because I figure the shaft seal will hold up forever at 66% of its max load ever being applied. A 2500psi ram would work just as well.
