Noel said he aint been over in a while.Last I talked to Ken he was saving up for linking his front end. That thing on the floor behind his truck in the pic is the whole drivers side rocker.I think he was talking about doing a boatside job like the one Noel did on Bear also but I could be wrong
I dont think I will be done in time to hit the Hammers this winter. But this thing will hit the Hammers I promise :thumb:

Looks good friz…can’t wait to see the finished product. Are you simply slapping a new body on that thing or are you also playing with the suspension too?

01-19-2007, 12:01 AM
Pretty much just swapping bodies.I have thought about links and regular coils but Im poor :toothless: My leaves do everything I want them to so Im gonna stick with them.I do need new ones though front and rear.Prolly a new set of 57s for the rear and maybe some stock rears up front and push the axle foreward a bit.
I just wanna get the body on and driveable first and then we will see what comes next :thumb:

http://www.norcalbigdawgs.net/Gallery/albums/album196/IMG_0501.jpg
I had though in the beginning that I would move the frame back toget away from cutting into the rear doors but was unsure if the firewall would let me.With the rear axle centered in the wheelwell, this is what I have for firewall clearance. So I think I am going to move the frame back 3" and then move the front axle foreward 3".
http://www.norcalbigdawgs.net/Gallery/albums/album196/IMG_0504.jpg
Im going to make this gap aboot 1/2" and see where that puts everything else.Im also going to run the 55 tank because its not going to be in the way of anything.
http://www.norcalbigdawgs.net/Gallery/albums/album196/IMG_0506.jpg
With the rear axle centered, the body is almost even with the end of the frame.

Here be my steering shaft :pimp2: I cut the spline part of the stock steering shaft off and pressed it into a piece of 1"x .125" wall tube and tig welded it in.On the other end there is a Borgeson steering joint. It has a piece of .75" round stock pressed into it and tigged in.I pressed the tube over the .75" stub on the joint and then tigged the tube to the joint. Then on both ends I drilled a hole through the shaft ,pressed a dowell pin into the hole, and tigged it in.I wanted to make extra sure this wont fail :toothless:

Sort of hit a snag with getting the Toy clutch master connected to my GM slave. It turned out I had just not talked to the right people.I went and saw these guys at lunch and they got me straightened out http://www.snowwhiteltd.com/index.htm
Got the steering shaft in and the clutch plumbed and bled. Its so easy to bleed a clutch by yourself with the tunnel cover off :pimp2:

Interior cage tied into the frame and run out to the front bumper.Wheelwell mods.Chop the bottoms of the rear rockers and make some cool rear quarter protection.Cut the roof off :pimp2: Got some cool ideas for the front end but I dont know yet.Scuff and paint. No body work.No good ideas on bumpers yet but I do have a 12k Ramsey to mount up front so I got to build around that :pimp2: I got some ideas but I want to get it driving and then I will dive into that stuff.
Im sorta gonna do this to the roof but I am gonna take the roof cap off also.So it will sorta be like a full vert but it will still have drip rails and door window frames.Kind of like a 1st gen K5.

I have a pair of new Blazer sliders Im going to use I think.Im chopping the bottom of the rear rockers off and will figure out some sort of protection for that. Not sure about the doors.I love not running doors, but this thing looks cool with them on.And after getting rained on in Moab, doors and windows are lookin kinda sweet too :toothless:

do a tan/brown combo it'll blend down to the rock sliders nicely all painted black, but then again that old skool green and white does make it stand out a bit. not quite the same old same.

I did the same type setup on my Mazda but was thinking of adding a few vents in the open ares to allow more air flow, ( covered with rubber flaps for when the fans come on like OE ones). I guess that this wont be an issue with an off road setup because its low speed driving.......

I thought about some flaps. But this is so much more radiator and a way better fan setup than I had before so I hope not to need them.
No play time this week. But I did get my fuel tank, sender, and straps. It will all go in this weekend. The Toyota fill door is on the drivers side and I want to use it.I thought I was going to have to relocate the filler on the tank but I dont. The 25 gallon tank I got is flat on the bottom and pretty much square so I can just flip it 180 so the filler is going the right way.The Toy filler is about 2" in diameter and the Chevy is 1.5".So I cut the end off of my Blazer filler and tigged it to the Toy filler so I didnt have to rig some funky reducer.Sorry for the washed out pic :toothless:

Frizz…sorry…but gotta hijack the post (again)…but just for a brief second.
Kevin…you have some good points. I’m not even actually sure if we’re hitting up the booby bars or not for the bachelor party. But I do know for a fact we’re going to the Giants game and will be tailgating and pubcrawling prior to and after the game. So, it’ll be a good time regardless.
Much like Frizz…..I’m just not a big fan of the sand. My truck isn’t AT ALL set up for sand (big motor, soft suspension to jump, paddle tires) and I just hate sand getting everywhere. Even when I was a kid growing up in Santa Cruz surfing…I’d love to be in the water but I HATE hanging out on the beaches.
I’m sure you guys will have a great time. Who knows….maybe I’ll go next year….my engine will be done and in the rig by then so I’ll have some ponies to play with. :eyebrows:
Alright Frizz….hijack off…back to the build thread.

Well I guess its time to start workin on this again bein summer is almost here.I pretty much got it wheelable (by wheelable I mean it ran, drove, and had the seats bolted in) in time for Moonlight and then just wheeled the rest of the summer/fall without finishing up anything.
So the list for this season,
1-fix the hole in the floor that the tcases and tranny come up through.Temp in the truck is pretty much engine temp when yer driving.Es no bueno.
2-Install Tuffy console,CD player,and XM
3-Finish the cage and tie it into the frame.Extend it out of the front of the cab out to the front bumper.
4-Git my 12K Ramsey mounted up front.
5-Install CB in the stock radio hole.
6-Fix some cooling issues.
7-Rock lights.
8-Hang disco ball :pimp2:
9-Install 1750 watt inverter.
10-Run power wire to my welder alt.
11-git my tires mounted on the H1s
Just have to see how much I can get done

Well I hope this is the cure to my running hot.It would get really hot while driving, but cool off if I stopped.I had two huge dead areas on the shroud so I punched 8 3" holes in in it.The idea with the rubber flaps is that they blow open while your moving, and then shut when your still and the fans are on.

This is all I have gotten done all week.Fan shroud with two 10" fans. They are 1000cfm each :pimp2:
I did the same type setup on my Mazda but was thinking of adding a few vents in the open ares to allow more air flow, ( covered with rubber flaps for when the fans come on like OE ones). I guess that this wont be an issue with an off road setup because its low speed driving.......
....huummm, Are you running a thermostat? I heard the too fast of flow through the system may cause hot running. This is because the water flows thru the radiator too fast to be able to cool down. Just a thoguht....

This did absolutely nothing for my overheating :( Is 250 hot ? :toothless:
Threw on an engine driven fan.It overheated faster :(
So I pulled the thermostat and checked it.It fully opened. So I put it all back together with no Tstat and the engine driven fan n took it for a spin.100deg. outside and driving in traffic it never went past 150 :thumb: I could actually touch my console and not burn my hand :thumb:
I put the electric setup back on yesteday and we will see how it does in Hollister next week :pimp2:
