Just the other day when he came to pick up his rotors he said he had a deal going on a D60 from Illinois or somewhere. It was like $900.00 and $155.00 to ship.

I have a complete 79 454 from a 1 ton truck in the for sale forum.
Too bad i have a guy coming for it on saturday.

Also according to smog i think you can only swap a newer motor in a truck... never older.? donno.

Eric, your diff cover will go in the mail tommorrow. Finally found a quick easy way to square up the gasket surface. Jesse's dad has a big ass belt sander that worked perfectly. So expect a package from High Angle early next week. :pimp2:

You may install a larger engine but it must be the same year or newer and have all emissions equipment hooked up in order to pass smog and if you install a 454 you will have to visit the referee the first time around.

I was always told that the engine needed to be offered in the certain vehicle for it to be smog legal. So in your case a 454 was never offered in a K5 so it should not be legal.

That is just what I have always heard. For Eric's sake, someone please prove me wrong.

That is not the case, i've personally spoke with the referee on the matter and you may install any engine of the same size or larger and even a different make as long as it isn't a HD engine into a LD vehicle. The engine does have to be the same year or newer as the vehicle it is being transplanted into.

Things to think about

Yep, and don't get caught for driving with out of state plates for more than 10 days in this state. When the cops see the vehicle with out of state plates and pull him over for ANYTHING they make a note about the plates and the date and keep it on file and the next time if it's more than 10 days they can impound the vehicle and make life hell.

While I have no doubt this is true....I hardly believe that any police jursidiction or the state has their shit together enough, the manpower or would set this as a high enough priority to ever enforce it. My old roomate had hawaii plates on his car for over 2 years and drove around CA with no problems...including getting 2 tickets. Maybe he got lucky...I don't know...but I wouldn't be concerned about it.

Well my buddy moved here from Arizona a few years ago and after a month he was pulled over and warned about it then about 2 weeks later had his van towed because of it. Yes they do pay attention to things like that because it brings in revenue for the city and anything that brings in revenue they like.

a friend of mines paarents live up in oregon.. He bought a brand new ford up there.. He paid a lot less for it and less taxes.. He drove it around here for 2 years with oregon plates.. He also didn't have a calif drivers license.. He just used oregons. He then got caught because he paid calif income taxes with no calif drivers license.. He had to pay two years back of reg and taxes and fines on the truck..

That's the thing, if you want to use the oregon thing, you have to go all the way, not use anything CA that way they can't prove you live here, they can't prevent you from being in CA everyday of the year passing through, but if you have CA license or pay taxes or have a residence then you are screwed.

For the hundreth time people...if you use my method of "smogging" it...it works just fine. You get to keep your CA license, CA license plate, and there are no issues.

This is more of a smog deterrant (SP?) Dad is gonna sign the title Sunday, and the only thing I have to do is tell him how many miles are on it. I won't be driving it on the street, only from to and from runs untill I get the tow rig,and trailer.. :uh oh:
