The So-Cal guys are having their annual run at the hammers on Oct 19-21, we would love to have some of the Nor Cal guys come down and see whats its like to wheel the hammers. http://www.thesocalbigdawgs.com/vb/showthread.php?p=3230#post3230

hmmmm
Is there such a ting as "less hard core" at the hammers?
every pic I have seen is perrty knarly down there

Do you all perrty much have a base camp and the head out and wheel then back to camp after?
I would like to see the famous Hammers :pimp2:

There is always a base camp on the lake bed. Then throughout the day different runs head out. Usually the hard core guys leave all day and the not so hard core guys go on a more leisurely run. There is plenty to do out ther for everyone IMO.

I’ll have to see how work is going. I’d love to make it down for this trip. IF I can swing getting away from work and my rig is up to it (there’s some immediate issues I need to take care of as a result of the con trip) I think I could make this happen. Are most of the runs on Saturday or is Friday a pretty big day too?

the last few years some of us have gotten out there on thursday night to run one of the harder trails on friday. I don't know if I can make it that early this year, I have to see what my job/internship is looking like when it comes closer to the time.

But, if you have rock-sliders and lockers F&R you can EASILY run claw hammer, Esteban, Jason P., Mike Sullivan, and I did it back in '04 on a friday in May, it took a few hours and I was the only person that got body damage on my blazer due to no rock sliders and taking some careless lines with no spotting. There is also a TON of areas to explore and there is a pretty neat trail called Fissure mountain trail that offers some really neat views of the desert. You can do Fissure really easily with just one locker and 33's.

Also most of the gnarly trails allow you to park your rig at the bottom and walk up to see the carnage.

I drove down last year for my birthday, and met up with crewcabroller in bako he waited 4 or 5 hours for me and kevin instead of leaving earlier. This was the weekend after moab so i don't think me or jason even unpacked. :p
We were the only guys representing the Nor Cal club at the annual So Cal Safari.
It was scary how fast the crewcab could fly through the washes and ruts and soak it up. I'd be just crawling over some of these ruts in my truck and jason was hitting em at 40+ mph, with me and kevin cringing.. :p
Everyone in the whole group lined up before we hit the trail and had a drivers meeting. us nor cal guys are much more informal about it.
We all did the easy trail i think it was fissure mountain, then the hardcore guys tried backdoor. I think Jason was the only one to make it up, first shot.
So we saw both extremes.
We saw a couple of big sand dunes there but never really played on em.
i'd like to see some of the other trails out there. i'll have to wait and see as the time comes closer...

We will definitely be missing something this year without crewcabroller :( I still can't believe you guys were ok after that roll, that was just insane.

But as far as trails you can expect some of the stuff to be a little easier than little sluice.

My goal this year is to make it up back door, im gonna tear the rear axle out tonight or tomorrow and start cutting brackets off, that stupid lower link bracket gets hung on EVERYTHING, so its getting moved up along with the link mount on the axle.

If I can manage to get away from work that Friday I think I'll go. I've got a small list of things that I HAVE to do to my rig before I can take it on the next trip. I could probably get those done in time. If I do go on this trip it'll probably be my last until early spring at the soonest....I've got some "big" things to do my rig after that that will take a while (especially considering how slow I work).

You and I should probably get together and see if we couldn't go sorta Dutch on this Steve; I looked around the BLM website and it looks like I could at least drive myself to the base camp area and maybe even do a bit of wheeling on my limited suspension, but I think I would be fairly inclined to help put at least two of your three obstacles to sleep in exchange for the passenger seat for some of the real wheeling...not alot I can do about time, I'm in the same boat as you with that one...

Well my samurai was ready to go, then i cut the rear suspension out and decided to redo it, gotta get it finished before the end of the month
I really wish I would have thought the rear suspension out better when I did the cage, I could have built it a lot better looking at it now.

I still need to replace my front springs and redo my front spring shackle hanger too so it doesnt hang down as low. I guess I better get busy cause I expect to be wheeling with some of you!

I’m most likely out (about 5% chance I’ll make it) too. Way to busy with work so I don’t think I can spare to take the 19th off. Plus, I haven’t spent anytime on the rig since before the Con. But I am shooting for a Hammers trip sometime in Jan or Feb though.
