We don't need a certain amount of people, although it would be nice to get a few together.

Dates will not be until sometime after our Knoxville trip (which was moved to the 26th).

We can pick about any date, or a series of dates, just gotta make sure my buddy Toby can get free that day.
He's the man w/ the access who has extended the invitation (by permission) to me and my own.

I'm thinking first or second weekend in January.

With any luck we will be wheeling Mix all winter long.

Toby wanted to go last Saturday, but we ended up parting out a rig headed to the scrapyard instead.

I know priorities etc...but on the other hand, for the cost of gas plus two sausage and egg mcmuffins now I have almost everything I need to put about 7 inches of lift on the 'Bro (3" BL 4" SL), spare gears, spare springs, a set of 32's plus a driveline upgrade, tranny upgrade, and enough spare shafts and stuff to hold the stock axles over until sfa/8.8 time.

I could be down for more towards the end of Jan or some time in Feb. The first weekend of Jan is HH.

I might be down too, all depends on if I can get a trailer or not by then. I could take the Yota on a rented uhaul or usrentals trailer though. :) It should fit.

Fuck yeah!! I’m in.

End of January or February works better for me. I could also probably get the lord of the Scout hood dancers, Darren, to come along with his rig as well…..can’t pass up entertainment like that.

Keep me posted on the dates.

Hey Ray,
Solano? Up near Vallejo eh?
Got anymore pics of the area? Looks pretty interesting! I'd probably be down to wheel a new place with you guys!

Yah first weekend of jan is the hollister run. i still have a few things i need to finish up on my k5 and flex it out at hollister to make sure everything is cool.
A feburary run up to this place seems ideal. :pimp1:
Let me know the date you guys want to go. :)

The official word on trip dates goes something like this: pick any Sunday, Monday, and/or Tuesday.
Everyone collaborate on a day you would like, and, pending approval from l/o, we'll make it happen.

My vote is for February 19th or 20th (President's day). It's a holiday weekend, most of us should have the 20th off and it's late enough in Feb for everyone to get their shit done to make it there. Anyone else got an idea?

I forgot to mention; word is shorter WB's have the advantage...your Yota, I have been told, would be ideal for these trails.

So...are you trying to say that K5's will be discriminated against up there? I like a challenge!!!

jays68yak

I think the biggest prob will be straddling the ditches that seem to be all over the place there. Once it starts raining thats going to be hard to do. IMO atleast.

presidents weekend sounds pretty good to me also.
saturday runs are good, cause if anything goes bad we have another day to recover/fix.

Also... As k5TPI and myself learned, its a good idea to have a written document signed by the owner of the land saying its cool for us all to be wheeling there on private property.. Just in case we happened to come across any law enforcement.  :pimp1:

01-09-2006, 04:44 PM
Ok well count me out for this one. I have some major work to do before I can hit any more trails. Rebuild of tranny, tubing front to help control the body flex and radiator movement, and rebuild of winch. A windshield might not be a bad idea either.

Nate if you want to borrow the trailer let me know. Also let me know if you need a copilot. :2thumbs:

Nate if you want to borrow the trailer let me know. Also let me know if you need a copilot. :2thumbs:

Ummm….ok on the trailer….and sure…you can ride with me no problem.

Although….are you saying that you don’t think you’ll be able to get your junk ready in time??? Is it that bad and need that much work?

I’ve got to get my junk ready too. I worked on it some on Saturday but I was pretty hung over. I almost tossed cookies in the engine compartment a couple of times. Managed to be somewhat productive in the garage for only about 4 hours. Got my ujointed steering shaft I fabed up installed, removed the old fan and shroud, and fabricated up the mounts for the electric one. Got to buy some hardware to mount it up and that’ll be done. Then just need to run the electrical for it and it’ll be ready. Then….got more crap to do (new tierod, KRC PS system install, trim sheet metal, build roll cage, etc.)

jays68yak
01-09-2006, 05:01 PM
Im saying im not going to stress over and it kill myself even more $$ wise. I need to try to recover from the past 2 months. Which means I need to focus on cages rather then getting my junk back together.

I got ya. Sounds like it's time to replenish the funds dude.

Understood....spend some time building it up right over the next couple months so that it'll last through the late spring and the summer.....that's when the trips will be.

NICE..looking good. Can’t wait to run these trails.

SO……. what’s the story for this run? What time and where do we meet on Sunday the 19th? Who’s going? Is it rain or shine?

I’ve got my junk almost ready. I’ll finish my rig up via the typical “thrashfest” the 48 hours preceding the trip. Here’s the to do list though:

1.Finish installing electric fan and wire it up.
2.Remove and replace old tierod with beefier one. Weld up hydro ram tabs on it.
3.Repair passenger side front shock mount.
4.Fab up spare rear driveshaft.
5.Retorque all suspension/driveline bolts.
6.Lube chassis and suspension.
7.Check/replace fluids.
8.Gas up and go…..

After the trip is when the fun begins. Here’s that list:

1.Fabricate and install rollcage and integrated seat and tuff console mounts
2.install new KRC power steering pump, resevoir and hoses.
3.install 2 more rock lights.
4.Install new stereo/speakers/amp.
5.re-fabricate spare gas can holder (getting rid of metal can and going with plastic cans, similar to ones used for dirt bikes0
6.Narrow and tube up front???? :eyebrows:

jays68yak
02-06-2006, 10:21 PM
5.re-fabricate spare gas can holder (getting rid of metal can and going with plastic cans, similar to ones used for dirt bikes

whats the reason for this? I need to be thinking about spare gas also hence the reason Im asking.

barbastard
02-06-2006, 10:28 PM
Because the metal cans (ie “jerry cans”) start to “rust” out on the inside bottom and turn your gas to sludge and make it unusable. Besides, they’re heavier than the plastic ones, and they don’t pour worth a shit. They do leak all over the side of your rig, your hands, arms and feet and ground VERY well though.

The only way you might be able to get the metal ones to work for you is if you cycle the gas through it every trip. But I’ve just had such bad luck with mine I don’t even know if I want to test it.

jays68yak
02-06-2006, 10:32 PM
hmm thats good to know. How many of the plastic ones do you plan on running?

hijack what?

barbastard
02-06-2006, 10:35 PM
Probably 2. That way I'd have 10 gallons on hand. Plenty for my gas guzzling of a 4x4. Plus a little extra for night time fun around the campfire!!! :sniper:

I'm thinking around 11am on Sunday, meet at Wrens in Vacaville.

From what I hear the locals are a little bit excited to hear the howling dawgs a-coming in the distance.

11am sounds good. THat gives us about 6 hours to wheel before it gets dark. Where/what is Wrens? Addy please?

Um...so who's planning on going besides Jason and I?

Oh yeah....fyi...I'm made of sugar....and I melt in the rain. :2fingers:

Can a fullsize Blazer make the trails okay? What about a crew cab? :toothless:

:pain:

barbastard
02-14-2006, 03:55 PM
A fullsize can wheel up there but not Hells Revine unless you want to leave most of your sheetmetal up there. The rest of the trails are lose dirt/mud and you can dig deep in no time. Hells Revine is tight in my Jeep with full width axles I still rub sheetmetal on the sides.

I'll take that challenge. Who needs sheetmetal?

I'll take one of the other spots in the trailer parking. I've got a 2500HD extended cab short bed and a 18' trailer.

Looking forward to coming up on Sunday and wheeling around the canyon. My thanks go out to canyon Bob in advance for letting us play on his property. :thumb:

Thanks to Canyon Bob for letting us wheel his land. I know we all had a great time. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve flogged my truck through mud like that. Not often I spin 5000rpm’s in double low!!! Made me a little nervous at first, but now after having done it I know that my rig can handle it. Would definitely like to come back when it’s dry and try some of the other trails. Hell…for that matter I’d come back in the mud and do it all over again.

As far as all the shit talking goes….I saw a sammi take an impossible line through a more or less impossible trail (especially when the mud is added in to the mix) and a K5 go up a hill that supposedly only one other rig has ever made up (in the summer…with the use of a winch). If there is still any doubt as to how the rigs in this club wheel…I invite any doubters to attend any future trip, anywhere, with any of the club members to verify that we get it on. Now…that’s all I’ve got to say about that.

BamBam…good to meet you bro. Hope to see you out on the trails again soon. I’m probably not going to be able to make the March 11th run to HH like you were talking about (too much work to do to the rig and no time) but thanks for the invite. Make sure you make it out to Blazerfest in July.

Ryan & Kevin…good seeing you guys again, my stomach hurts from laughing so hard with you tools (especially from when Kevin almost tipped over in his chair into the door at Bakers Square). Thanks also for the help diagnosing my “starter” issue. Ryan…don’t worry about the head light…keep it. Better yet…autograph and date it and raffle it off at BF this year.

Ray….you da man…thanks again to you and Toby for help getting us there. Good times bro!!

Jason…thanks for the trailer usage (even though the brakes were sketchy), being my copilot and the cheese it’s.

Well….I guess it IS possible to get poison oak…in the winter…when it’s “dormant”. How you ask….BECAUSE I HAVE IT ON MY ARMS :angryfire: !!!! WTF!!!! I don’t get it….I wore a long sleeve shirt the whole day, gloves, and bibs; I changed immediately when I got back to the tow rig, I took a shower that night and I STILL got it. I hate that shit. Guess my days of going to mix challenge are over. Because if I got that shit in the winter….I’m sure as hell NOT going to go up there when it’s not “dormant”.

The infectious oils on POak never goes 'dormant'...just the leaves fall off yet the oil that hates our skin is still on the sticks left behind during winter....
I get it bad too :argue: :chaz:
I feel itchy

It doesn’t matter…if that stuff is even around me…I’ll get it :( . It sucks. It’s spreading a little bit…but I think I’ve got it under control.

I should just copy this post so I can reuse it a couple days after BF this year…I’ll be in the same situation.

hey everyone, just saying what's up... jerry just gave me the link to the site & vids ~ i had a good first time going off roading..minus the fact that i can be a sissy and it was damn cold. (i was the chick seen shivering the majority of the time) you guys have a good crew, really funny & pleasant people..it's rather unfortunate that there is always the bad with the good (hence the bickering)... anyway, thanks for the blanket!
