We have a 20 gallon compressor that doesnt work. Its one that lays on its side lengthways. Im thinking about converting it to a BBQ for camping and what not. (read something a bit more "drunk eric proof") My thought was to clear everything off the top of the tank, cut it in half lenght wise and hing the back. Run it off of carcoal for simplicity.

Where can I find a grill for it? Or can I make my own out of 1/4 solid rod? Do I need to do anything to it since I will be cooking food on it? What kinda of vents would I need?

Hmmm...grills...

Well you can check out the ones my company makes at: http://www.pyromagicbbq.com

Now, for grates, you can spot weld steel rod, cheap grills use 5mm, good one 8mm, then have them chromed. Or just go straight with 304 stainless rod between 5-8mm, 430 is cheaper but the carbon content is higher and the constant heating and cooling of cooking on it will cause it to rust....yeah, stainless steel DOES rust if it has a high carbon content. If you want to see some examples of hand welded grates, come on down to my off in Menlo and I'll give you a looksy at our product showroom. :pimp2:

If you are REALLY fancy you can make a ceramic mold in the shape you want and then use molten iron, brass or stainless steel and cast your own "special" grate....but that costs $$$!! :2thumbs:

Do you guys sell just the grate? If I can get something close to the size premade that would be the easiest. :2thumbs:

Haha...probably, but you'd have to buy like 5 containers!! :thumb:

Remember my plants are in China...BUT, you may be able to find something pre-made from a company like Char-Griller, the make barrel typ grills, and there may be replacement parts sold separately, try BBQ's Galore.... http://www.bbqgalore.com/

i took a 50 gallon steel drum, cut a door and welded hinges then i welded it to a rolling cart and welded a little table on the side of it  then i used some grate i had and tack welded some rod then layied down the grate and tackwelded it to the rod which was tack welded to the drum.worked pretty good i had to revise it to work better but it did well.the paint melted off on the outside  ha i left it in cali when i moved fawk
