I don't know much but TBI from what I have read is simply a glorified carbreator, Throttle Body Injection. TPI Tuned Port Injection is way more efficiant and is a true FI setup. Fi comes in a Batch fire or Sequential Fire. Batch fire will fire fuel into multipul cylinders at once were sequential will only squirt fuel into the cylinder that is to be fired next. Sequential fire FI is better on fuel economy and power :pimp2: :2thumbs:

TPI rocks. Like burt said TBI is just 2 injectors, TPI is multiport injection with an injector pointed right at the intake valve for each cylinder. Multiport is the way to go. TPI is still batch fire though... Burt's edelbrock pro flo mpfi and chevy LT1 & LS1 engines are sequential fire..

First thing about swapping is if your truck is smog exempt or not. If you still have to smog its possible to do a tpi swap but you'll have to go to a referee and get it all signed off.. you'll also have to pass smog as the 1990 camaro or whatever you get the tpi setup off of. PM tunedportk5 on ck5.. he successfully swapped to a tuned port setup and passes smog on his 80's k5, but its more of a headache.

Swapping from carb to tpi i picked up more tq & hp, throttle response, and mileage. probably 1 or 2 mpg in most situations..
I picked up my old tpi setup for $300 "complete" and by the time i was done and running it was more like $1000-1200.
I went with a street and performance wiring harness ($500) and custom eprom chip to match my cam/setup($190).. also converted from maf to map speed density ($50).. Fuel pump, fittings, hardline for a return line, adjustable regulator, air filter, gaskets, thats another couple hundred..
I did a whole write up on my tpi install with info & part numbers its on CK5 in the advanced previews members forum.

All in all, i felt TPI was way worth it. One of the best mods i did to my truck. Ran flawlessly all the time, even on its side. or at high elevations. never misses a beat. very dependable.
Some guys swear by a professionally modified quadrajunk carbs but i still hear them hickup and bog on the trail.:D *cough*barbastard*cough* :p
TBI is a cheap step in the right direction, TPI is sweet, GenIII "LS1" is the shiznit.

If you or anyone else wants to pay to have the swap done... K5TPI and myself can make anyones TPI or LS1 swap happen. :2thumbs:

I stand behind what Ryan says..

The first real time I got it going the throttle response is UNbelivable it acts and sounds like a whole new motor..

Now the down side..
I was picky and changed EVERY sensor and line, nut and bolt I could...
And I went with a wire harness and chip from Jim's preformance (430.ish)
New injectors..(240 ish)
new sensors..IIRC about 200-300..Cant remember
external fuel pump and new lines and AN fittings..(175. ish)
TPI with injectors, manifold, bead blasted and cleaned up with comp but no chip and a Dist..(200)
New Dist that fits...lol (150.00ish)
Misc crap..gaskets and what not,new make fit wires,Vortec air elbow and fillter...350.ish.

Would I do it again...Yes..
