A shop in Gilroy just quoted me approx. $850 for a complete rebuild + mild shift kit. This would just be the benchwork.

Can you guys tell me if this is a fair price?

Cheaper then the benchwork on my 4l60e I just had done. $2000. Sounds like its in the ball park for a 3 speed rebuild.

I just checked with my tranny guy and i can get your tranny rebuilt with converter and the better 700R4 center support and heavy duty sprag and a mild shift kit for $685.00, if you only want a stock rebuild with nothing special i can get that done for $600.00. Also this is assuming that the tranny case itself is still good and doesn't have any of the internal ears broken. This is for a walk in unit not an R&R.

Did something happen to your tranny or are you only thinking about a rebuilt tranny when you do your new motor just for piece of mind?

Nothing happened to it, but it is old and tired... takes forever to go into reverse and no longer manually shifts into 1st from the column shifter. Basically, was thinking I should do this while I'm doin' stuff...

Sounds like a good price, does it come with any warranty on the benchwork?

When i deal with my guy i don't worry about warranty because i know if there is a problem he will take care of it for me and he will do the same for you.

I was thinking of giving Cheryl my old th350.. It ran fine untill the mudpit a few years ago.. The it spit oil everywhere on the way home.. It has been sitting out in the ran for last couple of years.. I now the case is good thou.. Do you think it would be good for her to rebuild it.. Then when she is ready.. Just take hers out and throw in mine???

That would be a definate possibility. The rain probably ruined the tranny though. When water gets into the tranny it starts to eat away at things inside and also freeze parts together.

My wife would say just getting it out of here would be enough payment.
Besides you just built a nice big garage so you need something free to work on :2thumbs:

I don't really have any way to get it down here. Maybe someone can bring it down in January?

I talked with my tranny guy and he said it would be somewhere between 575.00-750.00 depending on if it had a sprag clutch or a roller clutch and he did say the roller clutch is junk so he recommends it be changed over if yours is the roller clutch.
