Well I cleared all the crap from aorund my K5 and took it out for a drive this weekend.. :2thumbs:
My pass side vavle train has a tick tick tick.
I have only adjusted vavles once and that was years ago.
My pops does it with the engine running and rags all around the head to catch the oil..duno if I have the tanent or knowhow to doit like that..I remember him shaken like a mad dog and still able to get the valves adjusted right
So if I have one valve to adjust (sounds like only one ticking) how do I figure out wich one it is?
Next what size feeler gage do I use...our are all engines diferent?
I know the icking means it isn't perfect but does the ticking hurt the vavle train? I would guess intime it would but prolly not right away?
After I get the valve adjusted I hope to take my K5 to a dyno tune shop to fine tune my FI set up and save the settings to the FI's memory :2thumbs:
After sitting for 3mos my BBC fired right up..love it! :pimp2:

Do you have hudraulic valve lifters or solid lifters?
If hydraulic, you don't need a feeler guage you go zero lash. some go till it touches and another quarter turn, I just keep it right at.
If it's solid lifters then you need the specs for that particular cam and yes each engine is different.

Thanks Ice
90% sure they are hydrolic.
So zero lash is when the push rod won't spin anymore?
I remember reading about that...how you tighten it up until the push rod won't spin then you back it off a hair...is that what you ment?
I should prolly just talk to Scott about it :uh oh:

If the PM Scott sent you is anything like how he told me to adjust the rockers on my old big block, then do it with the engine running. It's pretty simple. Loosen till it starts clacking, tighten till it just stops, then another 1/2 turn. :thumb:

Whats the possibility that the lash is correct and the lifter just has collapsed, or bleed off? How long did you run it? If it was a bled down lifter (happens after things sit for so long) pull the valve covers and look for loose rocker, if one is found but the poly lock is the same height as the others of the same valve then it might have collapsed or bled off. If you adjust it like this it will hurt the lifter/cam/pushrod/, another trick I like is KB engine restorer, I have witnessed this stuff quite some sticky lifters before, :2thumbs:
Oh yea, you should fire your rig once a week :2thumbs:

No worries here, i built his engine last year and he doesn't have many miles at all on it, in fact i think he only has one trip to HH for blazerfest and nothing more other than a block or two around his house. I am fairly sure it is a misadjusted lifter. I also don't think i installed poly locks on his engine since he is still using the factory stamped steel rocker arms and a hydraulic cam, no need for poly locks in that situation.

Why would it develop a "tick" or loose lifter from sitting? I could see it happening shortly after start up,,,,,,,,,,,,, but just my 2cents??

Thanks Guys
Just to clarify the tick was present before. It did not just start ticking after I let it sit for 3mos.
And this engine is still brand new...like 250miles on it
Thanks again fellas :2thumbs: :2thumbs:
