That's the same weekend as his tuff truck & monster truck show in Turlock. I will see if I can find out more info next time i'm down at country ford.

Hmmm Sounds like fun, RBs truck with the wide paddle tires and traction bars and a 100 shot would be a contender. :2thumbs: I dont know if I want that much mud on my junk tho...... I wounder if I could compete in the tough truck comp without destroying it either

Latest update is that it is not Shipman. I am hearing that is the same guy who runs the Sat truck pulls. Still no details regarding classes or how the event will be run.

the promoter is dave rovella they used to do mud drags for a few years back about 12 years ago but quit because not enough participation so went back to derby. but it is hard to get derby cars so he canceled the derby and wants to try mud again he also thought of doing tuff truck
the mud was very unpredictable. heard he was getting someone who sets up for the real drags so we shall see

Ryan, I am also trying to make this event. you can use my Fox dirt bike helmet you wore riding quads in Pismo a few years back.
I think I will be at Thunder Hill on Sat helping a customer with his CMC car, but want to go to the drags on Sun. If it rains on Sat I wont be going to the track at all.
Also if you need me to repair the traction bar lemme know.

Congrats to Kevin & Ryan for making it to the final 4. The wheelers put up a good fight against the mud trucks. I will post videos as soon as I figure out how to break it down into the individual races.

I had A LOT of fun out there.
There was some tough competition, i didn't think i could pull off a 2nd place looking at the other trucks, but luck was on my side.
Heres a few pictures.

Me and kevin lined up...

Yup had a great time :D . Jens got videos of all the runs with RB and I in them.

Ryan missed taking 1st by mere inches up against a BB 572ci 720hp chevy long bed, the same one that put me in fourth place. Not Bad for a near 20 truck field. My first loss was to RB and at the end of the run the judges took a minute to say who won.
Met a bunch of cool new people, and hung out with some old friends and am looking forward to next year. Mabey I'll up the HP by then :red:

Had a blast at the drags. Kevin and Ryan's rigs definately suprised alot of people, even themselves I think.

What happened to the that drag racin..44" tired fiberglassed CJ5?? Oh yea..Kevin whipped it like a rented pony. :thumb:

In the pic with Ryan and Capt Throttle you can see Kevin in the background. What you dont see is me...cause Kevin put me on the trailer in the 3rd round. :pimp2:

Great time.

10-06-2008, 03:18 PM
Hey nice meeting you too, LanBrzr.
yah i suprised myself when i won 6/6..
then I was in the final round against the green longbed with a 572R crate engine. Nobody wanted to race that guy.
I paid for two runs, so after he beat me in the final round, we raced again a second time, but swapped lanes..
Second run he was eating a sandwich at the light or something cause i got the holeshot, but his extra 300hp made up for it, in the 125'.

Hell yeah i made it out there. I ran into JJ before the races. Ryan you def had the hammer down every run. You and kevin made a big impression on a lot of people. There were alot of people talking about your rigs in the stands. I tried to get down in the pits to say "hi". Some big ol' woman chewin tobacco and a hairy chin said that if i could get passed her i could go in. She kinda reminded me of that old WWF wrestler Vader. I quickly declined and went back to my seat.

BTW,

Good job JJ and Capt Throttle. You guys went out and put on a good show.

hah, thanks!

yah thats what i heard about the same guy owning the two baddest trucks out there.... thats why i reffered to him as davey deep pockets. heheh.

hey Marc, when i was parked waiting in between rounds, some guy in the crowd was like "thats f'n sweet man! I got a 72 k5 same color and everything.."
thinking it might be you, i went over to him and introduced myself and asked his name but it was someone else.
...you should have gone for it, wrestling the lady trying to get your free pit pass. :2thumbs:

Ryan...I've watched all the vids several times and you were the most consistent of all drivers...Staging, Launching, etc. Proves that it takes ridiculous money and horsepower to beat good driving.

Can't wait till the next time we can line up.

That's what I was thinking too.

Ryan, every time you lined up you were the only one that would pull up past the gate and back up. Was that done on purpose to give you better traction off the start or was it just something you did?

Nice Job by all of you. :2thumbs:

Ryan B.
10-07-2008, 03:18 AM
Esteban, some of the long wheel base rigs that ran before us had to pull up a little and back up to get straight and in the groove. It was a little bit tight turning into there and then trying to get straightened out, the first couple times i pulled up i could feel the rearend wasn't pointing me straight, so i made sure i was in the groove.
I saw the first race with the jeep against kevin not lined up good and he lost cause it was all over the place from the moment he launched.

scott, you should have come out there man... probably could have done real good in the stock class, as long as you didn't say there was internal engine mod's.

Ryan, the guy that came up to you does have a 72 crush. He bought it out of the valley. It has a 383 stroker (from what i hear). I also heard that he went straight to Pismo and blew it up. I think he is still trying to fix it.

10-07-2008, 04:26 PM
AWESOME videos guys...that's great to see you guys doing that.

So the big green truck got 1st?

What gear did you guys start out in? Did you shift any during the run?

Capt.Throttle
10-07-2008, 05:25 PM
The video of my race with Ryan doesn't show well, but I was running 2:1/1:1, launching in 1st, and shifting 2nd.

Ryan B.
10-07-2008, 05:37 PM
If you watch the black stepside, he was fast, had a nasty 383.. but he was clutch dropping it like crazy, see all the clutch smoke every time he launched, and the clutch didn't look like it would grab until halfway down the track.
Pretty sure he'll be putting a new clutch in that truck this weekend.. the whole place smelled big time.

A few weekends ago I swapped back in my th350 with a 4,000 stall converter like i had at pismo.. so i would footbrake it up to 3500rpms or so waiting for the green light.
I was in 4 low. first race i hit the rev limiter in 1st so i got a feel for how soon to shift. second race i hit the rev limiter just towards the end in 2nd gear.. so i started shifting just a little bit sooner, and the rest of the races i'd grab 3rd towards the end of the track..
It doesn't sound like it with that huge stall converter but i was clicking off 1-2-3.
I don't think i could have done nearly as well with the sm465 cause i would just be clutch dropping it in one gear and thats it. Smoked my clutch 2 years ago at pismo doing that.. and i don't plan on trying that too much anymore.

My buddy is editing his video footage from the stands... its pretty decent video and good sound, hopefully he'll have something together by next week.
The crowd was definately cheering for me and kevin towards the end, and people were boo'ing the green longbed when i lost to him. haha. :D

10-07-2008, 05:49 PM

I was shifting also.

First run I ran 1st to 2nd but ran out of RPM about 40 feet from the end. The 2nd and 3rd run I let it shift all the way into 3rd. 2nd run felt much faster than the 3rd for some reason.

My mind is already in high gear for what to do next time...

Talked to my BIL Jake and he says there is to be some more upcoming Mud Races.
One to be put on by "davey deep pockets" as Ryan calls him
One by another local
And supposedly one at HH.

No idea what the dates are or even if these will happen but I will keep everyone posted.
