So…much like all the other forums as of late…this one has been dead. What’s the story with all you Moab bound people??? What do you have left to complete on your Rigs, tow rigs, trailers, campers, tents, coolers…etc. to be ready for this trip?
What’s the story for us Bay Area People???? Are we going to meet at Pac Feb and caravan out from there? Is it only going to be me, Kyle and Kevin???
We’ve only got 2 weekends left and then we’re on the road for a week long wheeling vacation….where’s the excitement for god’s sake?????

We have the steering to bleed and that is about it. We may have to install a proportion valve for the rear brakes but we will figure that out after this Sunday's test run in Gorman. Oh and I will be installing a tool box in the rear for the tools. :2thumbs:
Ken and I plan on leaving Monday morning. Dave may not be going with us now. We'll see when the time gets closer.

Well the reason I have not posted about this or been excited is because I am not going to be able to go. We are super busy at the shop and I have two projects that need to be finished this month. Sorry guys, but I have to take care of the Biz so I can continue going on trips like this.
I am going to try to put together a trip to pismo or the like this winter. So look out for that one. :(

Wow, lame :(
I've still got to replace the can on one of my pumps, get some 90* #10JIC x 5/8" Pushlok fittings and make a new supply hose, cut open my fenders a little more upfront and clearance the bumper, fix the reservoir hose that may be salvageable, install a new window, put in a new driver mirror glass, weld the trailer spare mount on and that may be it, I hope.

Boom....and the bomb explodes.....that sucks dude. :(
VERY bummed to hear this. Was looking forward to you guys going.
Sounds like our group is getting smaller by the minute.
There's a chance (10%-20%) that Cathy might not be able to go due to work commitments that would keep her here that week. If that's the case....I'll have an open seat available for someone. We'll probably know within the next week or so.

I think the Chevy is done. Today I got the new Realifts in and the t-bars loaded, fixed the driver's power window too.
My power steering is getting hot. I'll leave it as is like I've done in the past and hope it gets me by.
Nap time. :)

Well now Este has a pile of stuff to do and a pile of parts coming in :flipoff2:
I'm no farther along yet myself. Maybe the pump will get changed tomorrow with a new supply hose. I may even clean the bed up, everything is haphazardly thrown around back there from BF.
So Nate were are we meeting on Saturday? Find out if Cathy is going yet? What are we going to run on Monday being it's only our 2 rigs until later that day?

I'll find out if Cathy is going for sure no later than early next week. I'm about 90% sure she's going.
As far as meeting up goes....was thinking....since we're not meeting up with anybody in Morgan Hill why don't we meet up in Pleasanton or Dubling and head over the Altamont and get on 5 or 99 from there. Would that be easier....or does it still make sense to go south from your house.
Plans for Monday....hmmm....good point. Ken and Este won't be there till late that night and I think Geoff & Mel won't be there till late tuesday. Maybe we can go meet up with some of the CK5 guys and run a trail with them. Other than that.....not really sure. I don't know any of the trails there. Any Suggestions?
Was also thinking about tools....rather than doubling up on on the bigger items (power tools...grinders, sawzall, welder?, drills, etc.) should we divide and conquer?
Worked a little on the rig yesterday. Plumbed the tranny lines into the second circuit (one that I was going to use for the oil) of the cooler and got about 80% done with the xmember/skid plate for the tranny cooler. Need to finish that up, install stereo and sirius, lable switches, fix radiator and fan mounts, swap out PS resevoirs and do some other small things. Should be able to finish it all up this weekend (more or less...I hope  )

Also, my plans to go to Moab are heavily dependant on available $$ as of right now, so if I am going it will be a little later in the week.

Glad to hear Cathy is probable. We know your happier with her there:2thumbs:
Maybe the best option to meet is on 5 just south of 152 and caravan from there? I know my group won't be on the road to much earlier than 6 putting us in that area around 7, how does that work for you Nate? Maybe I can get them to crash at my place and be loaded up the night before. That way neither of us is headed the opposite direction. Planning to stop in Bako or should we pull through depending on fuel planning to see them Monday?
Monday plan sounds interesting. I can honestly say I've never been out with the CK5 group, maybe a day excursion could be fun. What else do we have to do right? I just want to be back to chill and campfire it with the new arrivals.
For tools, I very much agree, lets not bring too many more than we need. I've got the leads and jumpers for a 24v battery welder and a couple pounds of 6018 electrodes (I'll bring my helm and gloves). On top of that I have grinders, a plug in sawzall and some scrap steel supplies I can bring. My drill abilities run low, other than the press all I have is battery 1/2 chuck drills and 3/8 corded units. Anybody have 1/2 chuck corded units? I've got all my bolts/washers/nuts in mobile containers I can bring too to supplement the need.
Lets hope you're able to tackle all of the tranny cooling needs before the trip. I don't need you turning ATF into magma on this trip:p

I’m fine with meeting on 5 south of 152. I’ll have to do some map questing and figure out how far that is from my place to figure out what time to leave at. What time do you want to meet there…7am? What’s the estimated towing time to Vegas? I don’t feel like getting in there at 10PM, so I’d like to get going early. Who else is going with you….thought you were going solo? IMHO….I think we should just roll thru Bako provided we don’t need fuel. We’ll be seeing them soon enough and it’s going to be a long drive to Vegas so I’d like to get there as soon as possible so we can chill a little that night and get some sleep.
I’m really down with whatever on Monday. Wheeling, sight seeing, chilling, whatever…..I’m on vacation dude so it’s ALL GOOD!!!!
Sounds like you’ve got the welder, scrap steel and hardware covered. I’m going to bring my tiny generator just in case. It’s small enough to pack in the blazer and it’ll run a grinder, sawzall, drill, etc. I’ve got a cordless dewalt drill I can bring and I’ve got pretty big corded dewalt drill as well. I’ll confirm it’s a ½” chuck. So are we good on grinders, sawzall, etc.? I’ll bring my cheapo pneumatic impact gun and can bring my corded dewalt impact if need be. I just want to make sure we at least have a welder, grinder, drill and maybe sawzall.
I think the tranny is actually running at an ok temp but it’s just getting a bad reading from where/how I installed the temp sender in the pressure port. I smelled the tranny fluid and it didn’t smell burnt so I think I’m ok. I’ll most likely be tinkering around on the blazer up to and after the first trail in Moab….but I think it’ll be ok.
Art……I know we’re planning on staying the night at either Geoff/Mel’s house or yours….so you better be prepared!! Can I “pitch a tent” on your front yard???? :flipoff2:

Mapquest tells me that it's 7 hours from 152 and 5 to Henderson, NV. Of course that's not accounting for 60-65mph towing. It also says that it's 1.5 hours for me to 5/152 and 2 hours for you. Some simple ratios and it looks like as an estimate total traveling time is at 10.5 hours. If we both leave at 6-6:30am including fueling up once and stopping a couple times we should be in around 5-6pm?
Danielle can't go, she has to be Vegas for a trade show (damn marketeers) on Monday through Thursday that week. Travis may or may not go, I never quite know with him. I have another friend who's always wanted to go wheeling but never had the chance. He's on break from his 2 summer quarters that week so he said he's going.
Sounds like Monday will be fun. We'll work it out.
I'll bring a couple grinders (incase one nukes) and my sawzall as well. You have a drill bit set up to the bigger bits? Maybe just some unibit selection? Those would be uber handy.
As long as your fluid is still fine I'll bet your sender is going funky for whichever reason.

Ok, so I finished up the x-member/skid plate for the tranny fan, clearanced the front tcase xmember and skid plate so that it doesn’t rub against the drive shaft, wrapped some heat wrap around the passenger side header and exhaust (had already melted some split loom around wires and I also think that was contributing to a false high tranny temp reading), almost have the stereo completely wired up and installed, installed a second propane tank line (now I don’t have to physically swap tanks anymore when I run out), respooled the winch line on the drum and got some other small stuff done too. I’ll finish it up tonight and tomorrow night and that’s it….she’ll be more or less ready for Moab.
I also verified that my dewalt corded drill is a ½” chuck. So, I’ll bring that, my little generator and the cordless drill and probably the corded impact. I’ll leave the grinder, welder, and whatever other power tools you think we’ll need to you Kyle. Should I bring my porta ban? Do you have bits, grinding/cut off wheels, bolts, nuts and spare steel? If you need me to bring any let me know.
My plan right now is to be on the road Saturday morning at 5:30am. Knowing how things usually go in our household  that means we’ll be hitting the road at 6am. I’m figuring it’ll take us about 1:45 minutes to get to Santa Nella. Where exactly do you want to meet up? Santa Nella (the town) is right north of the 152/5 interchange. Do you want to meet up there or did you have some other place in mind?
Also….we’re thinking about camping out at the slickrock campsite on Sunday night. That way we can save a little $$$$ and you’re not stuck in the campsite all to your lonesome  . I’ve got to call and see if there’s still spaces left so we’ll see what happens.
Current Moab weather forecast is saying mid to hi 80’s during the days and low 50’s/hi 40’s at night all next week….should be beautiful. :2thumbs:

The list keeps getting shorter.
Spare tire done
Trailer done
new driveline bearing installed
welded up cracked tube under hood
secured compressor
secured intake tube
replaced all steering lines
Still in the process of bleeding the steering. Hasn't got any quiter yet. Hopefully it will. :uh oh: If not, oh well. We're running it.
Today I plan on installing the tool box. And when we get the flanges for the engine cross bar I will weld those in.
That should be about it. I plan on loading the truck up on Friday and then packing everything else in around it.
ANYONE ELSE EXCITED!!!!!

Sounds like you're banging the stuff out...good to hear.
I haven't had any time to work on the rig this week....stupid work has been getting me home at like 7:30 all week. Tonight we're going grocery shopping, tomorrow night it's loading up the rig on the trailer and getting all the tools, spare parts, etc. together. Friday it's packing all our own gear, coolers, camping crap, etc. and then Saturday morning at 5:30 or 6am it's GO TIME!!!. Maybe I'll find some time to work on it tonight or tomorrow night and just load it up on the trailer Friday night.
Can't wait....I need a vacation and I need to go wheeling.....This trip allows me to have my cake and eat it too. I get a week long vacation...wheeling no less....and my wife is going too and here's the kicker.....she actually might be more stoked on this trip than I am.
Life is good right now   ....send positive vibes that no one has any catastrophic break down on the way out there.

Toolbox is in. I just need four bolts.
Flanges are in so I may be putting those in this evening.
Steering is still loud as hell but everytime I drive it around the block, the fluid in the reservoir is still aerated, so hopefully it'll go away in time.
Something funny happened today though. I was turning the wheel back and forth with the tires on the ground. I was turning really slow to the left and then I let go of the wheel. What's weird is that the steering wheel and tires kept turning by themselves. Steering wheel maybe turned about 1/2-3/4 of a turn then it stopped and I couldn't get it to do it again. WTF is that all about?

Nate, any chance you can grab any firewood? I don't physically have the room to fit enough for 6 nights worth I don't think.
As far as to do:
Bumper just about done, so I can work on my junk.
Discount is getting a set of BFG's so the front tires on the Dodge are getting replaced Friday morning.
Trailer may just get the spare mount welded on at Moab.
Shopping and packing tomorrow.

I HAVE PLENTY OF WOOD.
You can load it here and carry only what you want to burn until I get there. I should have plenty of room.
Chevy isn't starting. It turns over and dies. Did a 8 hr. slow charge on the battery and it wouldn't start. Took the battery to Vatozone and they said it was bad. New battery won't start it.
Fuel pump sounds like it's working. Pumps fuel out of the schrader.
It seems like an ignition issue.

So I decided to fawk with the damn steering one more fawkin time. I move the return line from the manifold to the reservoir. A couple of turns of the wheel and
FAWKIN $H!T!!!!!!! IT'S QUIET NOW!!!!!
The manifold wasn't letting all the air out. Once I ran it a few times through the reservoir, I put the line back into the manifold and still as quiet as can be.
Man this just topped off the day. I was happy that I had gotten everything else done and the truck was looking like is was ready. So I gave it once last try and BAM!! All is good is Bakersfield now.
Thanks for all the help with the steering advice. :2thumbs:

10-4 on the OBD scanner, already have it packed and in the truck (in fact it permanently lives there). Glad to hear it started but that is odd that it now starts up and runs fine. Hopefully it was just the fact you had a bad battery and your compooter didn’t like that. Only other things I would check would be fuel filter, fuel pump, injectors (?). Past that I wouldn’t have a clue on these new engines.
If I’ve got some room I can bring some firewood…in fact I was just thinking about that last night. We’ll see how the packing goes……I’ve got a feeling between my boy scout tendencies of bringing EVERY tool/part/fluid/etc and my wife being…well….a woman  ….the truck is going to be pretty full. Not to mention all the booze we’re bringing, which currently stands at 60 beers, one 1.75L of Jack, one 1.75L of Vodka and 4 bottles of wine.
The trailer is ready to go, the dodge is pretty much there (need to fuel up, check/add fluids and lube chassis), camping gear is ready, food/drinks/booze are bought. Tonight we’re packing the coolers, buying a GPS, packing up clothes/gear/etc.. I’ve got some last minute stuff to do to the K5 before I load it up on the trailer and that’s about it.
Didn’t get a chance to wire up the stereo/Sirius before we leave…..anyone feel like giving me a hand with it in Vegas or Moab? Or should I just leave the stuff at home?

Sounds good Nate. Travis is in charge of our alcoholic beverage supply, I figured that would be an easy task for him. I'm with you though, room and weight carrying capacity is running low. The bed of the Chevy is going to be filled and the Dodge.
Well I finished that bumper last night at 9pm, unfortunately the Jeep in the driveway is in the middle and my buddy accidentally took the key I was using to get in and out. Adding insult to injury $25 worth of paint for the bumper is sitting on the unaccessible to me passenger seat. Darn it.
Looks like I'm literally changing the pump and loading the rig on the trailer last minute after he gets off work and can bring the key by. I guess I can put in the window in the street and pack the bed.
