If you commute to work, how far?
I'm considering taking a new job that would involve a 140 mile a day commute- 70 miles each way. If it goes well, I'd consider moving closer, but not for a month or more. The money is better than what I make now, and not even considering the money- the job is like a bazillion times better than the one I have now. I think I'd actually have fun with it. I've never had to commute more than 25 miles for work....just lookin for some input.

Well I go 54 each way 108 everyday.
The commute dosent bother me because of the time of day I go to work..(dont start till 7pm leave at about 5:30pm)
If I was to go in the morning time the same route I would go monkey nuts..The traffic gets REAL bad starting about 3am the way I go (westbound) but I dont deal with it coming home because I am on the other side then..
The only bad thing is I HAVE to buy a new car that gets good mileage and has full warrenty..(planning on about 25-27,000 miles a year) and will not put that on a car with high mileage already..
And even if I could afford a diesel truck the fuel is higher(right now in lathrop diesel is about 3.26 and unleaded is 2.76 and going down about every 2 days at joes travel plaza) and not as good as a car...
The wifes car is costing me about 60 70$ a week
I took a Job that was a cut in pay but the work is so much better and my stress level went WAY down..and the job will be better in the long run in that my pay will go up and I will still be at a place I REALLY like and have no intentions of leaving till I retire..
Thats my 2 cents.. :2thumbs:

Hmm....This job pays more and is a job that I know I would enjoy the hell out of. Diesel is expensive right now....thats a considration. I've been checking out housing in the Chico/Oroville area seems reasonable. So maybe I'll move up there if I liek it. Basically the job is mine if I decide to take it. Decisions Decisions.....

I used to do 132 miles a day, 66 each way. I did it for a month in a car  , then said forget that and did it every day on my motorcycle, then it was a piece of cake! :thumb: Did that for a year before sayin F the commute and moved from Solano County to Cupertino where the job was. But then again, I had to go with traffic each way...damn dot bombs....
I would suggest moving to Chico/Oroville area. CaptainInsano and I go up there often. His dad lives in Yuba city, and his wifes mom is in Oroville.
Major plus is lot's of wheelin up there, and Lake Oroville for you boaters.

Commute? What's that? hehehee
Let see...My first gig was about 185miles a day..Fridays would take 3hours+ to get home cuz I was stuck in the SantaClara trying to get out of dodge. I did that one for about 4yrs & 210,000 miles. I bought a lil S10pickup and that was a great commuter car, plus I could use it to make dump runs and such.
Now-A-Days about 105miles a day...been doin that fer about 6yrs now..started with the lil S10 but for the last year now I have been in my Silverado....way better of a ride...not too bad on milage about 19mpg average as long as I drive like I have no were to be anytime fast. and yes Diesel is $$$.
I work 6-3 so that helps alot, but it still gets crowded out there...
There is no way I could make what I am makeing here in the BayArea/TriValley in the Central Valley...someday I hope to end this maddness but my wife won't let me quit :pimp1:

Been commuting 63 miles each way for 17 years, but I have always worked off hours (grave or swing and now 9:30 - 6:30), so I'm not in the middle of commute traffic. I wouldn't be able to hang any other way. I spend an average of 2.5 hours commuting every day (give or take if there is an accident or it's a holiday).
I wouldn't say that I love my job, but it's a really good job, good money, good bennies, good peeps and they are really flexible.
In a perfect world, I would be able to walk to my job, but Hollister just doesn't have the payscale I've grown accostomed to.
I could move to the Bay Area, but rent would be more than my mortgage. Gas is expensive and I'm on my 4th new DD. My friends and family are here and I hated it when I did live up there.
Seems like the only time I have to myself is when I'm in my car and some days, I'm grateful for that time to wind down, think things over, listen to that new CD, etc. Some days it really sucks.
In the end, I think it's a matter of what you are willing to sacrifice. No one can answer that question but you.
Good luck, punkass :flipoff2:

About 30 miles each way. Not too bad since the dot com bust. Takes me about 30 mins if there is no rain or accidents. Not too bad. Dont really mind the drive other then the cost of gas. I just need to break down and buy a beater.

96 each way then my wife takes the car to her work, so she goes about 101 each way. Car sees a bit over 1000 miles per week. Nearly 2 years old and almost 100k on it. No way would I do this commute in a vehicle that doesn't get great fuel mileage.

FAWK SHAGG!!!! Thats NUTS!
I thought my commute of 42 each way sucked. 45-Hour 10....
I put 400+ a week on the Honda Accord. I too wouldn't do this commute if I didn't have a good car.

I’m about a 50 mile round trip per day PLUS any mileage when I visit my jobsites (one is about a 50 mile round trip from my office and the other is about a 33 mile round trip from the office). I’ve been averaging about 350-400 miles per week the last 14 months. Which translates into about $100 (+ or -) per week for gas (just for work related travel). The 2500HD isn’t what you’d call a “commuter friendly” car. Although, I’m looking into getting a “commuter” car as we speak…..mid to late 80’s Porsche 944!!!
As far as commuting goes….it sucks, I hate it, I wish I didn’t have to do it. Unfortunately….if you live in the bay area, more often than not, it is a necessity. If you can get yourself in a position where you don’t have to commute….do it!!! Believe me….I do NOT intend on doing this for too many more years. The Sacramento/grass valley/Nevada city/Rocklin area is starting to look REAL good now. Not to mention out of state (either Colorado, Georgia, Texas or Northern Arizona).

Well, the distance I have to go is 78 miles. From the time I leave my appt in Grass Valley, to the time I get to the High Angle Driveline building in Paradise, is about an hour and 15-20 mintues.
Tell ya what, after working second shift- 3pm-11pm or 1am for the past 3 years or so, getting up at 5:30 in the morning and driving almost 80 miles suuuuuuucks.

Ha!
Yeah, I need to figure out who exactly I woe diff covers too...I think it's just you and Eric. Do I owe anyone else one?
Anyways, Ima try to get them banged out this weekend. I'm gonna be hella busy looking for a place to live, and moving for most weekends after this one. Then who knows how long till I can find a place with garage to start buildin diff covers again...Unless I'm lucky and find somethin right away. Hmmm, I wonder if Jesse would let me set up in the other half of High Angles shop.... :p
I wish....
