Gotta start a new build up thread since the other one is lost. :(
Last weekend I finished narrowing the front. Then this weekend I pulled it all off.

Day 6 there was a SBC inbetween the frame rails.
And on the 7th day there was a BBC 454 in there.

Oh yeah and its got TBI on it. :D
Since I had the motor out I decided to put in the cross member that Esteban made for his blazer. I bought it when he parted it out. Thankfully it clears a BBC also.

More to follow as I get more done. :)

Are you gonna drive the thing on the street? I can't imagine you would...didn't you get a green sticker for it? Anyways, why go with a selectable locker? Why not just a plain ole Detroit? Would be a bit simpler, and less movign parts/wires is always good on a truck thats almost a truggy.

IMO a selectable locker up front is the only way to go. No matter what type of rig you have (except maybe a mud only truck). It's just so much easier to drive and not to mention SOOO much easier on parts. Besides, you don't need the front locker engaged the whole time...

no green sticker yet. Going to have on tho. Doesnt mean I wont drive it on the street.

Did you measure the amount of travel your steering has lock to lock?

Esteban86K5
10-20-2005, 06:38 PM
MIne was only 5in. I had to limit my 8" ram when i went to high steer. You have less throw in the high steer position.

barbastard
10-20-2005, 06:39 PM
that's what I thought.

with a 6" your steering would be pretty limited....glad this was caught before you had it installed!!!

http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=150777&page=1&pp=10&highlight=HYDRO+ASSIST

All the ones on there are not running highsteer. Well other then friz. Not sure what length frizs ram is. But everyone else in that post, with out highsteer, is 8inchs. So maybe it is different with high steer???

Maybe Ill just leave it as is and see how it works. If I need to order a 8 incher then my loss.

Esteban86K5
10-20-2005, 06:54 PM
Like you said, everyone on there is NOT running high steer. I used all 8" of mine when it was in the normal position. But when i put it up higher I lost a few inches in throw.

I was looking at nate's pics and it may be different in the behind the axle setup. But I don't see how it could be. Nate have you actually measured yours?

Jay go outside and take a quick measurement. If you have your arms already it would be easy. If you don't just eye ball it.

jays68yak
10-20-2005, 06:56 PM

Yeah, I’ve got an 8 incher and it works fine. :mrhumpy: :flipoff2:

Seriously though, it’s the same ram I had when the tierod was in the stock location and it works fine in the current set up too. It’s actually about 7 5/8” of throw on it. Basically I just adjusted my steering stops to coincide with the ram’s full compression and full extension and it’s fine. What you DO NOT want is for the ram to have more throw than the steering stops will allow….that’s bad, mmmmmkay. I would be VERY surprised if the 6” throw does not seriously limit the amount of steering you have. But, I’ve been wrong more than once today so who the fuck knows. You can really tailor it to your application by playing with the steering stops, the location of the ram, and screwing the heim joints on the ram in or out some.

ok messed with the front springs a bit tonight. Added a 3 degree shim. Removed the overload that turns out to be a rancho piece, guessing a add a leaf lift spring. Also removed an extra spring that was in there. Used the correct u bolts and not the 44 ones. Flexs way better then how they were before hand. Before I could bearly move it myself. Now it moves pretty well. If it wasnt dark I would be out there with the cherry picker flexin the fucker out.

Thanks..
http://www.pnkages.com/gallery/albums/D60/DSCN1454.sized.jpg
Its a piece of 2x3x1/4 wall that I welded some 3/16 plate on to the sides. This way I ended up with the 3" inside needed for the spring to fit in. It also allowed me to drop the mount down 2", for a good 1" of lift. 3/16 might be a bit on the small side but its what I could get my hands on for free. I then capped the other two ends and on the front brought it down a bit more to add some strenght to the 3/16 sides. I drilled and tapped the 2x3 so that it can all be bolted on. I want to test it out then Ill most likly weld it on also. On the inside of the mount I added some 2x1/4 flat so that its also bolted to the frame.
http://www.pnkages.com/gallery/albums/D60/DSCN1595.sized.jpg
There are 7 bolts holding each one on at this point. I think it should hold up ok. It will be Bonzai tested. :2thumbs:

weekend update.
Saturday I pretty much spent a good part of the day stairing at the wiring. When I pulled the motor I had to cut a few wires. I coulded get them around the accs with out removing all the accs. So I solder all those back together. Also fixed some wires that were messed up. Traced a bunch of wires to figure out what they did. The connector that goes to the fuse block is the same from the 88 suburban and the blazer. So Im going to try to do as little splicing as possible and just plug it in. There are maybe 7-8 wires that I need to power or figure out what they are since im going this route. There are a few things that pass through this connector that I wont be using. Like the oil pressure to the guages since Im running an aftermarket gauge. Same with the water temp. So I just need to get a battery in the truck to figure out whats hot and when.
Also got the fuel pump mounted. I ended up getting a stock replacement inline pump for a TBI system. A bit more then I wanted to spend but I didnt have an option. I mounted it next to the tank in the bed, hopefully it will work there. Also need to get this powered off of the fuel pump relay. Basicly just need to figure out what wire it is, and run it. Also got the fuel lines from the TBI unit connected to the rest of the system. Its the stock hard line/braided line combo down to the frame. Then it ties in with some short pieces of rubber line, to the stock hard line on the frame.
Sunday I got the front sheetmetal back on and the radiator all in and plumbed. Also got one of the batteries mounted. Sounds like I might of gotten a lot done but I still have a lot to get done.

Talking with Trevor from WFO about all the steering parts. Man does that stuff add up QUICKLY!. Oh well its needed and his is the best that Ive seen. Besides I think half of the people here run his shit anyways.

Idealy I would like to get the motor fired up this week. Well see how that goes tho.

Wiring is almost done. Need to get the fuel pump working and then run a wire to the tranny kickdown. I was able to crank it over. :D YAY that does work.

Need to figure out what Im going to do about this oil cooler thing. Prob just get that part so that I dont have to deal with the cooler.

Im pretty sure that Im going to have some clearance issues with the oil pan.

Yeah, I did….and that was with a 350 (smaller pan than a 454) and the axle in stock location. Ended up having to move the axle about 1”-2” forward. In your case….sounds like it’s time to find a low profile oil pan.

jays68yak
10-27-2005, 03:13 PM
yeah my axle is already that far forward. I think Ill compair this pan to the one my dad has laying around his house and see if they differ at all. I guess I could always modify that one so that I wont have issues. Or I can just let this one self clearance. I hope nothings in the way inside.

I think when I do the shocks, Im only going to go for about 3-4 inches or up travel. That should help with the clearance also.

Question: How come you left the overloads on? For the extra height or too keep the springs out of neg arc?

jays68yak
10-29-2005, 02:16 AM
neg arc. Im going to do the shocks so that I only have 3-4 inches of uptravel. These springs drop more then they go up.

not to mention having a big block in there.

Which by the way runs now. I guess if you hook up the power wire for the injectors it runs.

Jayson Hows it run? Have you reset the base timing? do you have exhaust on it? Congrats at making it go! :2thumbs:

I have done nothing but idle it right now. I just wanted to make sure it started up before I got the harness all back together. No exhaust, just headers. Might see if I have time to rig some exhaust this week. Doubt it as I need to get it movable for this weekend. I was either drunk or too tired to do anything to it over the weekend. So this week I need to get the rest of the steering on, install the 2wd box and pitman, put the harness back together, install it, swap radiators, fill everything, put the 60 shafts in, after I change ujoints, get all the 60 brakes and what not on and bleed. Guess Ill be working into the darkness all week. Altho daylight savings should hopefully help a bit.

Hydro mount?????
Its not done yet. Just had an idea and I wanted to try it out. It turns lock to lock. Although my steering stops arent really correct(ones missing). I will pick some new bolts up and then redo the tierod mount.
The housing mount will get some more bracing. Atleast one more tube on the front, between the two that are already there. Ill prob also see about adding some in the back.

cant....let.....this....die....

So I worked on it a bit today. I cut off the sides of the bumper so that I could redo the bends in them. They got kinked on the first few outtings and have just been getting worse. The plan is to brace them so that it doesnt happen again. I got to thinking about making a stinger also. I couldnt really figure one out in my head that I liked so I just started bending and this is what I came up with.
http://www.pnkages.com/gallery/albums/D60/DSCN1696.sized.jpg
Not sure I like it but its growing on me. Im already thinking about tubing the front out but I think that might wait until I get a cage in there. That way I can run the bars to the cage.

I also pulled the core support forward about 2 inches. Its nice having a winch, I just hooked it to the top and pulled it forward. Then made some new brackets for the tops of the fenders. I want to brace the core support to the bumper so that if one of the fenders comes undo agian then it wont go into the fan. I think Ill also be heading to pick in pull shortly to get some electric fans.

Is it just me or does it look like this ----> :(

This is what my week is like..
I need to pull my second np241 apart, swap in the correct input from the other one that I tore down over the weekend. Then put it all back together.
Install said 241 in place of the 208. I am doing this for a few reasons....mainly cuz I sold the 208 to motovate me to get the 241 with a lower gear in the blazer.

I have 4 cages that need to be built, a 5th is being added next week. I dont have to have them done this week but I need to work on them. Lucky 4 of them are for the same bike.

Continue thinning out the garage. Ive got some crap that I just dont need.

Help/get mike to work on his truck so that one day it will be done. I guess I just need to hold his hand. I feel bad cuz its never going to go anywhere if someone doesnt kick his ass into gear.

Saturday morning Im waiting for mike to come clean out my truck of his crap.
Saturday 4ish I have to go to my neices dance thingy...I think its in SF.

Sunday Im helping my sister move stuff to her cabin.

If anything it looks like its going to be next weekend before I can got hunting.

Ive had experince with the taurus fans and man they SUCK (as in good).
Ive also had some experince with the camaro fans that are listed in your third link. I blew two of them, could of been how old they were or that they were going out but they didnt impress me. They also dont have a built in shroud.

What time do you think you can come saturday? Im half tempted to wake up and be at picknpull by 8am saturday to see if I can find them.

Well, Eric and I are supposed to hit up the auction in Vallejo which starts at 8:30 or 9am and lasts till like 12 or 1pm. However, I’d also be down to try and fit PnP trip in there somehow or instead of the auction. Let me see what I’ve (I mean my wife) has planned for me later on that day….that’ll really dictate how much time I’ve got to screw around with that day.

I wouldn’t mind picking up one of those fans myself, plus I could use some stock 14BFF ubolts, driveshaft parts and useless junk only found at PnP. Oh yeah….and a morning full of laughing my ass off with you dumbshits.

There's also the Richmond PnP to go to as well.....it's about 30 minutes from my house (and about 3 minutes from my office). They usually have decent stuff there....but...I'd be down for any of them.

im thinking about using one of two of these (depending on how many fans)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8019735231&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

Like I was just telling Mike, nosmog, If I go to the pnp in newark then I also have the options of 2-3 in hayward, and or 2 in san jose. All depends on how much i want to drive. I have never been to the richmond one.

on another note someone was telling me that newark just like doubled thier truck stock.

I only have prob till the early afternoon before I have to be home.

Damn it almost fell off the first page....
Scott and I were just talking about the clocking ring. Overall Im about 90% happy with it. The holes were not 100% correct, they work dont get me wrong. The 6 that go to the tcase you have to put in loose and tighten them all a bit at a time so that each one gets centered in the recess. The studs seemed to be a tad off so that it was hard to get the adapter on. A quick tap with the hammer on a few of them solved that problem. I had thought about making one myself but by the time you factor in the time to cut and drill it was easier and quicker just to order one up. I would order another one if I had the need.

In this picture you can kinda see the small amount that the studs were off.

So you don't think the torque will be to much for the bolts?

What do you mean? Which bolts? The ones to the tcase cant really back out cuz what hole are they going to back out to? I mean the adapter hits it so that they cant come out. Plus I put locktight on them. The studs are also locktighted, and the nuts that go on them are nylonlock nuts. Im going to build a new xmember that will have a built in torque rod for the tcase. This whole year I havnt had a torque rod on the tcase and the 208 has been fine. Altho it prob would of helped in pismo when the adapter came off the tranny. But so would me have using the correct lenght bolts.

Ok got bored and realized the garage aint all that cold with the doors closed.
Started by trying to straighten out the top cover on an old drill press Jerry found in the dump. Still trying to figure out why they tossed it. Seems to work fine. Needs a bit of maintance but it still works. Plus its got a phase converter in it as far as I can tell, runs off of reg 110.
http://www.pnkages.com/gallery/albums/random/DSCN1728_001.sized.jpg
Then I tossed my harbor freight pos tube notcher on it to see how the drill press worked. Did a good job IMO. Better then my little craftsman one. This is the start of my new tcase cross member. Going to run bushings on each end and tie into the frame. My plan is with the clocking ring and this new cross member I can stuff the tcase up into the floor of the cab and have a flat belly.
http://www.pnkages.com/gallery/albums/D60/DSCN1729.sized.jpg
http://www.pnkages.com/gallery/albums/D60/DSCN1730.sized.jpg
I guessed at the frame distance since it was dark and I just tossed the tape measure up there. The crossmember itself is 1 1/4 sch 40 pipe, the holes were done with a 1 1/2 hole saw, and I had a few inches of 1 1/2 DOM laying around. Going to weld a washer to the DOM and the DOM to pipe. Then you can bolt it from the bottom.

Well I was able to work on the blazer for a bit over the weekend. More busy working on motorcycles then anything else. Spent xmas day mounting the electric fan, and getting the blazer into the garage so that I can work on it when it rains. Got the fan to work, cleaned up and went to the movies with Eric and some of my roommates.
Yeah the blazer is a TIGHT fit into the garage with the 38s still on.
http://www.pnkages.com/gallery/albums/D60/DSCN1731.sized.jpg
And now the fan mounting. Not the best nor the cleanest but my brain was hurting from thinking. Should be ok. I plan on putting a limiting strap on the motor so that it doesnt toruqe too bad.
http://www.pnkages.com/gallery/albums/D60/DSCN1745.sized.jpg
This one needs to be cut down a bit still.
http://www.pnkages.com/gallery/albums/D60/DSCN1746.sized.jpg
And then the wiring. I was able to get it so that I have either a low or a high switch for the fan. The far left switch is the high, the bolt in the center is holding the relay, and the far right switch is the low. I didnt want to run it off of a temp sensor all the time cuz if I go through water or mud I would like to beable to turn it off. I just need to remember to.
http://www.pnkages.com/gallery/albums/D60/DSCN1744.sized.jpg

This weekend I plan on getting the tcases swapped along with the crossmember rebuilt and installed. This will prob take me forever to do cuz I see a lot of headaches in this. Id like to work on it this week after work but Im busy building cages for these damn bikes.

It was easier for me to do it via switches and have total control rather then go off a temp sensor. I watch the temp as it is so It shouldnt really be a prob. Im more worried about remembering to turn them off in the advent of water/mud.

jays68yak
12-28-2005, 03:53 AM
2x8 from northern tool. Had to take about an inch out of the stroke IIRC. Basicly made a spacer out of delron and stuck it inside so that it wont extend to far.

I've been looking at this one-
http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2005122723330405&item=9-6645&catname=hydraulic

I can get all the fittings, hoses and the ram for under $90 from there. Just have to port and tap my box.

Whats the rod diameter on your ram? Got a link? Do you like how it works? Is it overly weak in one direction than the other?

I've had a couple people say to look for a ram with a .75" diamter rod rather than the 1" one that the surplus center ram has, because it'll the push/pull specs between the two different sizes is significant. This one is identicle to the first one, but has a .75 diameter rod-
http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2005122723330405&item=9-4410-08&catname=hydraulic

Costs $38 more though. Any ideas on this? Which of those two rams should I go with?

The 1" one has SAE -4 ports, the .75" one has 3/8" NPT.

The 1" one is Push/Pull 5290 / 2940 lbs.

The .75" one is Push/Pull 3,350 / 2,650 lbs

Thats the ram that I got. Doesnt give all the specs that yours is listing. I kinda just jumped the gun and ordered one. I dont have any probs with mine other then it is a bit slow. Its a great improvement over nothing.
Odds are good that you will have to limit the stroke of your ram.
1. You can cut it open and add a spacer in it.
2. Do something on the out side.
I found a few examples on pirate when I did mine. I went with what I had and could do quickly.

Im not finding a good pic of my box on my site. Nate did it and I think he got the info from ck5.

Cool thank you.

Your's has a 1 1/8" rod and 2" bore. The one I'm looking at has a 1" rod and 1.5" bore. Yours has alot more surface area. Maybe I should look for a 1.75" or 2" bore ram with 1" or less rod. Hmmm... Back to search.

Here's some pics of the first box I ever tapped :mrhumpy:

http://www.norcalbigdawgs.net/Gallery/album100

Since then I've done 4 more and getting ready to tap Eric's box....but it's dirty, oily and nasty...so I've put it off for a while!!! Shoot me a PM and I'll give you the lowdown on it. It's pretty easy, just measure 3 times, drill once and go slow and you'll be ok.

As far as the ram goes...WTO uses either a 1.5" or 1.75" bore with a 1" rod. I use the 1.5" bore and other than leaking from the day I got it and it basically needing to be rebuilt after about 6 trips...it's worked fine. I didn't feel like dicking around with custom mounts and all the fab that goes along with it so that's the main reason I went with WTO...I like their heim jointed rams. Much easier to mount and I believe they look better and have a better range of motion.

My only gripe with going to the hydro assist is the fact that at slow speeds the steering is somewhat heavy and that it's hard on PS pumps. However....those problems are about fixed for me....just received my KRC PS pump/resevoir kit last night. Got to install that and I'll be putting out over twice the amount of the stock pumps!!!! Steering should be saaawwweeeetttt after that.

Good luck.

Jason....I'll call you today.....got some questions on the wiring for that fan.

KidJethro
12-29-2005, 01:07 AM
Thanks for the pictures and part #'s Nate and Jason. The pictures really help.

Nate, when you drill and tap these things, do you take them apart first? Or just let'er rip? I figured I'd just packl the flutes on the drill and tap with grease to keep the chips out of the box... That is unless you actaully tear them down to tap them. I don't mind tearin it down, but if I don't have to, I don't want to. :flipoff2:

Fabbin the mounts is no big deal...an hour at most.

My box was new the day before Blazerfest so it's in good shape...No oily nasty crap on there. The only thing I worry about is how close my tires come to the box... When totally flexed and turned to the right, the lugs on the 42's rub the front part of the box. It has to be pretty extreme flex to get that close, but there is a shiny spot on my box from it.

My pump is also new. Just a stocker though. And I carry another new one as a spare. I might experiment with the pump mods detailed on the WFO website and see what happens.
What did the KRC pump cost ya?

Oh yeah....somthing happened to me today thats never happened before. I tried to do a donut in the parking lot at work....and ran out of gas. :D :D  :pimp2:

AH Back from a 1000+ mile road trip in the Excursion to see family in Oroville and Fresno! Good to be home!!

My ram is a 2"x6" Ram, 36" hoses I believe, any shorter would be too short. I did 6" for a safety type reason, don't want to put extreme angle on my 1/2 ton running gear. :) So far so good. I only lost about .25 inch each side turning. Meaning my stop is got .25 inch between it and the knuckle.

I seriously would reconsider the 1.5" bore ram, I've heard nothing but bad stuff about them. Leaking, breaking, bending, etc. Many uses and abuses on mine and not a drip of fluid anywhere. The loss of speed is minimal and wouldn't sway my decision if I did it again.

Ram- 1.5x8x1

4 of these- 2 for the box, 2 for the ram
http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2005122900475917&item=9-1501-4-4

2 of these- adapter to attach the hose to the ram
http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2005122900475917&item=9-6405-4-4

Total cost $87.93.

This is the 1.5x8x.75" ram-
http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2005122900530328&item=9-4410-08&catname=hydraulic

I've been researchng this assist thing quite a bit the last few days, and have read about the problems with the 1.5" bore rams. However all the problems I've read about are concerning the 1.5 bore ram with a .75" diameter rod. I'm hoping the larger 1" diameter rod helps to stop the possible bending and resulting leaks. There is a larger difference in the push/pull specs between the two rams- The 1" ram- Push/Pull 5290/2940 lbs. The .75 ram- Push/Pull 3,350/2,650 lbs. The steering force with .75 ram would be closer to equal both left and right...But the 1" ram has a higher rating all the way around. It'll be quite a bit stronger 1 way than the other vs the .75 ram, but still stronger than the .75 ram in both directions.

As far as speed, the one 1" I ordred might be slower than the .75" ram, but should still be faster than the 2" rams, most of which have 1.125" rods.

I learned alot from this thread on Pirate- Including the link to the SurplusCenter stuff.

As far as speed, the one 1" I ordred might be slower than the .75" ram, but should still be faster than the 2" rams, most of which have 1.125" rods.

That is incorrect. The reason they have a higher stated force rating is because the larger shaft ram is rated for more pressure, 3kpsi vs. 2kpsi. Therefor the rating on the 1" rod ram is given at 3kpsi whereas the rating on the .75" rod ram is given at 2kpsi.

At the same pressure the ram you ordered, with the 1" rod, will exert less pressure than the one with the .75" shaft due to the smaller surface area on the rod side of the piston. The non piston side will be equal in force to the .75" rod ram.

In other words, the ram you ordered will have a larger force differential between left and right and be weaker when contracting than the ram with a .75" rod.

Also as far as speed, your 1" ram will be faster when contracting than the .75" ram, not slower. The speed will be the same when extending though.

slip yoke tcase???

Ive been running a 208 for the past year. Went to a 241 cuz I had it. Dont have the fundage to go to the SYE kit just yet. So I think once I get around to do the 63" springs Ill have to do the slip yoke elminater also. Im more worried about the front shaft but thats just a consumable. :p

Well today was spent redoing the exhaust for the 4th time this year. That took about 3 hours. Bunch of crawling under the rig then getting back out. It was a PIA. Once I had that all welded up I pull the crossmember so that I could install it all, then put it all back together. Then moved on to changing out the crappy alum caster shims that broke the last trip. At the same time I also finished welding the hydro mount. I couldnt get to a little bit cuz the sping was in my way so since it was out I finished it. Once I installed the front dshaft I noticed that the CV wasnt going to cut it, so I did some modifing to it. Hopefully it works and holds up. Then I moved onto the passanger side floor. It isnt turning out as clean as I would like but it should do. Its all 16ga. Hopefully tomorrow night I can get the floor done and the seat mounted.

nice, what you do to the CV, grind off the stops? Mine looks to be in a foo bared state and signs of lots of rubbing on the stops. Doubler should help though moving it back some. If you did grind em off and it holds up I'm doin the same.

Well sorry, I just wanted to make sure you knew what the actual results would be before getting it all installed... It doesn't matter a whole lot since the speeds will be relatively close. I didn't see you ask

The floor is for the most part done. Its as far as its getting before this weekend. I would say 95% of the hole is gone. Its way beefy. I can stand on it and it doesnt deflect, where as the stock part under the center console does.
The seat is mounted again. Used 2/3 of the stock mounting bolts/hooks. The third I had to weld to the floor. Guess I wont be taking it out soon. Its welded all around the leg, and then I added another support going back so that it would have to rip a lot of weld before it could come off. And thats if it pulls the stock stuff up. I think its more stabble then it was before hand.
Center console is back in. About an inch higher then before.

you gonna redo the cross-member

or maybe bob the rear end

or perhapse build a side mount to the engine to stop the extra stress from the t-case clocking

You bought the "do it yourself castrating kit" and are going to finally be able to fit into those jordache jeans you've been eyeing for the past 3 years and get rid of those pesky urges to pee while standing up!!! :flipoff2:

Deffently thinking about cutting the winch/ bumper off and redoing it. Course also need to figure out why its not working.

what about re-inforcing the frame. sure does bind up when you get it all twiste up. be nice to move the radiator to the rear also. maybe run some exhaust tube inside the rails and relocate.

Not so sure I want to do this....It would cut down on space in the back.....it is getting moved tho.

HAHA I used to have that setup on my rig. Worked pretty fuggin good. Thing is when going solid mounts or something that does not give you HAVE to use solid mounts for EVRYTHING or something WILL break. Solid engine mount, tranny mount, tcase mount. I didn't and it fucked up my tranny mount pretty good.

I've been toying with the idea of going solid mount everthing on my rig, not sure if it is a good idea or not.

I would like to know if solid mounts would be a good idea or not. I mean I could care less if I felt vibes but is it good for the motor/tranny/tcase??

Thats why I have not done it yet. It depends on your engines power/torque. I think I could get away with it with my 350. With your 454 I would lean towards maybe not. I have heard and agree I guess that you could rip threads out of the block or tranny. But then again I would think a u-joint would give before that would happen. It has to add extra stress on the parts though. You could do solid mounts and a torque plate. :bling:

I really hate when I am trying to torque over a rock and see my whole drivetrain / engine moving. You could argue that is more prone to breaking shit too.

Thank you....You just gave me an idea. Im going to build me a set of those that use the stock mount thats bolted to the block. Those are the same type of bushings im running on my tcase mount. Shouldnt be hard to fab them up. :2thumbs:

are you gonna add more bracing between the frame rails?

crewcabroller
01-13-2006, 01:45 AM
Don't go with a solid drivetrain mount until you get rid of all your frame flex. I'd focus more on getting rid of frame flex than anything else, it's basically teh root of all your problems.

I was just reading thru the rest of the posts to say this but you beat me to it.
If the frame flexes and you have solid mounts all over you will brake something like the mounts or adapters or case basically the weakest point.
