hey there, I'm in the market for a front locker and have read all the mess here about the first version of it for d60 axles being junk.
Has anyone here been using the redesigned version and like it or dislike it?

I had one...it broke...it sucked. I'd stay away. I haven't heard anything about it being redesigned or anyone using a new one.

Yea, your posts were the ones that made me think twice. Unless someone has real experience with the supposedly new design, I'll probably stay away.

Brian,
Nate's was one of the ones I remember reading about also... but there was substantial chatter about the 2nd Design e-Locker on Pirate, and people seem to have been having good luck with them.
Obviously, when you've been burned once it's hard to trust the design, but Eaton seems to have gone back to the drawing boards and developed a more durable design the second time around.
If I end up staying with the 1-Tons on my build, I will absolutely put the e-Locker up front.
My $.02

So if the $$$ don't start pouring you will stick with Ph one?

I'll say this...when the locker worked correctly at the begninning it was sweet. It was DEAD silent, engaged when it was supposed to and traction was killer. If Eaton has gone back and redsigned and I was in the market for a selectable locker I'd consider it. They did refund my money so I'll give them that much. I just haven't heard anything about them redesigning it or anyone using a new one. I've never ran into anyone on the trail before or since I used my elocker that was using one....seems like they're kind of rare.

For my uses, it's either eaton or ARB. Cost is about the same, it's just that I have been trying to avoid the hassle of air lines, compressor, and all that which is why the eaton is attractive.

If cost is the same between both with the ARB including OBA of some sort then i would go ARB since the OBA is nice for other things as well.

Technically, the price of both is about the same. Compressor, airtank, and all that stuff adds to the ARB cost, but only by a few hundred. I still have a week or so to decide.

Get the e-Locker!!!!
Buying the ARB doesn't help me collect more "real world" feedback on the e-Locker...
Take one for the team, c'mon!

After all the searching for feedback in different places it seems the feedback is consistant with most every other locker out there: People who haven't broken it all love it and the people who have broken one can't stand it. I certainly can't blame someone for not enjoying flushing $800 down the toilet.
If I do go with the redesigned elocker, I'll post up some pics to see if people with the old one can notice any visible differences.

My gripe wasn't that it broke. My gripe was that it broke without me really hammering on it. It simply broke because of faulty design and/or construction. I can't really blame a product for failure if I'm abusing it...that was not the case with this though.
I agree with Greg...get the elocker. If they've re-designed it you should be ok.

Been really happy with my ARB, I was all for the e locker for simplicity, but like Scott said having OBA is really nice. :2thumbs:

I think I'm just going to go for it and try the elocker in the front.
To make it even more weird, I'm almost set on an ARB in the rear. Then I get to keep open diffs for the street and snow trips. I know it's weird but I like the open diffs for most of the use this truck sees.

So if you're going to go with an ARB in the rear why not the front?
You will already have the OBA of some sort for other things so why not just make this simple and go ARB up front also.

You're right it doesn't make a lot of sense from that perspective.
I'm not 100% sure on the rear yet and don't have to decide that for a while, but I need to get the front together ASAP.
Going with the elocker in front allows me some time to look into other rear options (like a detroit) if I decide I don't want the OBA and all the stuff that goes with it. Maybe that reasoning doesn't make sense either, but hey I'm trying to keep things interesting.
