I second this question...what the hell are we going to do?
Probably won't matter for me though as I'm most likely not going to be able to attend this year. :( With barbastard junior due 7/2/09 I'm not sure if BF is in the cards this year for me. But...we'll just have to wait and see how things go.....

Oh, I was just being a dick :p
:( I really like BF too. Maybe this could give us the push to go somewhere that doesn't required renting a campground, ie not Hollister
My prerequisites just involve people showing up and there be some vague resemblance to wheeling during the day and some partying at night.

Why?
I say we go to the sierras

The board of directors have talked about this a bit and it sorta comes down to where else has what HH has to offer? An area large enough no matter what the turnout is,showers, restrooms, fairly centraly located, and a good variety of wheelin.
The Sierras by me would be sweet but,it would be primitave camping (no facilities),and out of the way for just about everyone but me.Have it up here and I forsee a turnout of less than 10 rigs.
Blazerfest will most likley be at HH this year.So those of you that want to have it somewhere alse have about a year and a half to figure out where to do BF11 :p

Niagra Rim has plently of room for campers and toy haulers to park. Also there are bathrooms at the camp ground below or A&A port potties will deliver them to the area where everyone camps/parks. Also has all kinds of wheeling there. Only downfall would be no showers but there is no poison oak! 4x4 In Motion hosts there big poker run there weekend after 4th of july

How bout we look at were the majority of the members who are comming to blazerfest are from. Then take a vote of members were we think it should be held. I know one of the major problems of hh is the cost of renting area 5, and with the lack of new blood it will be even more tricky this year. Just a thought
most are from the bay area no ?

Bonus to going towards the sierras would be cost of renting an area would be gone and depending on how many people are going we may or may not need to get a permit, with last years numbers that showed at BF I would say no permit needed. Not to mention cooler temps and the great smell of pine trees.
Even places like Niagra Rim have all levels of wheeling for everyone. Not to mention night wheeling is allowed, the rock pile and lyons butt are away from camp so it would not keep up the ones who want to sleep early and both of those places have nasty stuff and easy stuff.

It is neat up there, I went one summer with Sierra Off Road, only stayed about 36hrs. Broke a hub on that one rock/hill area...duno what they call it. It was perrty extreame if I remember right
Lots of wide open areas hills/pines & dirt = Freash Mountain Air

It's near Strawberry, CA. The one off Hwy 108 NOT Hwy 50.
My parents had a cabin in Mi-Wuk and I've been all over the area.

Cool…
I looked it up on a map. It’s only about 150miles from me…I’m down. That’s only about 50 miles further than HH. If we get to night wheel, there’s no PO, have more privacy, it’s cooler, better scenery, no rangers, it’s cheaper and wider range of terrain and difficulty of trails…seems like a no brainer. Are there any lakes or streams nearby? That would totally seal the deal for me.

There are a plenty of lakes and streams up there. Not sure how many are along the trail but in the vicinity there are tons.
Depending of the season you'll get mosquitoes, I'd say until July-Aug. depending on how wet the winter is. But OFF! works.
I think this is the campground. I haven't wheeled there, I've only gone backpacking there. Maybe someone can chime in and let us know if this is the official campground.

The turn to the left prior to your right turn at the end I believe is where everyone camps. The turn-off (Eagle Meadows) is roughly 12 miles above Strawberry on 108
There are streams all over but none one the actual trail. One of them is about 1/2 a mile from the entrance of the trail and it is big enough to do power car washes through with the trucks (not that i have ever done that  ). Mosquitos have never been to bad in the area was up there for 4th of july and no problems.
Burt you were proablly at the rock pile is my guess hard to say without a picture. But just a guess on the info you gave.

Been thinkin about this all week.I dont expect anyone to agree with me but the more I think about it I think we should keep Blazerfest in Hollister if possible.
95% of people that attend live about 1.5 hours away.Move it and I think we will have less of a turnout than last year. And we seemed to get a lot more CK5 folks when alot of us were on there regularly.Maybe we could see about getting a sticky post over there in one of the forums to sort of pimp the event in the months leading up to it.
Another thing thats nice about HH is the poker run.Its great to have JJs group volenteer to pre run it and get it all set up to make it a success. This would be hard to plan if its too far.
And if we really want new blood,we need more than just one annual wheelin trip.We have BF and a few of us make a couple annual trips to pismo and thats it.I dont mean anything on the scale of BF but yearly trips up here by me,Pismo,Hammers,Niagra Rim,Rubicon,Fordyce ,snow runs somewhere maybe? So Blazerfest would be the main event with a bunch of those other places thrown in in between.Thats the only way we are going to get more people interested. And I feel if we want to have the club grow this is what we will have to do.

Firstly, I am not a member, so my "vote" doesn't count as much, but I figured I might chime in on some of the things Frizz said.
1.) I found out about you guys from CK5. I joined on CK5 because it is the easiest place to find on the web that deals primarily with these types of trucks. And I found you all through a post on that (two years ago for BF, actually).
2.) The members from this community have a good reputation on CK5. 4x4High, for example, is a well respected member there, and he has helped me more than once. Thanks Scott!
3.) I am happy to support local clubs. I have enjoyed meeting you all both of the last two years, and I tried to buy a large number of raffle tickets to support the club. I have bought t-shirts and always paid well in advance of the actual BF.
4.) I personally would join either Niagra, or HH (or most any other place), but I am set up to do so. Not everyone is set up to handle long trips (or even short ones these days!).
5.) I think you could expand your base quite a bit if you "advertised" a little on Pirate and CK5. Put up a post or three in the regional forums there and invite people who aren't in the club, and you'd probably get quite a few. Make sure you explain that both club and non-club members are welcome. I felt very welcome for the first BlazerFest, but I was nervous heading into it (I didn't know anyone, and didn't want to be laughed at). I think putting language that explicitly invites people of all skill levels would be very good.
6.) You should consider adding a couple of "seminars" perhaps to BF as a way to get newer folks involved. For example, some of you experts could design a few free seminars on something like:
-Winching 101 - how to get unstuck!
-Ever wonder how to use a Hi-Lift?
-Replacing U-joints on the trail
-Cooking meals on camping trips.
-Trails of the Bay Area - a Primer (brig some maps and do a live session talking about each one)
-Tire Tech - How to break the bead and replace a tire in the field and how to patch sidewalls in an emergency.
Those are just a few silly ideas. But one of the time tested ways to bring folks in is to offer them knowledge. Giving some of the younger wheelers in the area a reason to come meet you is a GREAT way to lure them in.
Remember it is those interpersonal interactions that make liftime bonds. Burt will remember me for my Steve Irwin Impression. I will remember Darren for.. well.. lots of shit. :) And I remember Nate and Cathy for sharing their Pork Rinks with me!
7.) You could also consider weaving some of the tech sessions in with some of the vendors on here. Kevin could put on a welding class. Jesse could bring some of his bumpers and show people how they are built or whatever. One of you could explain how to design a roll cage (which, of course, those new folks would come buy from you at the shop). But it is that offering of free knowledge that brings people in, and brings them together.
Just some thoughts. I enjoy spending time with all of you. You are a friendly bunch, and I'll attend BF this year again.
