Yeah Burt.....it's kind of a rule, remember?

2002 -> We went for the first time and made a pledge to be there every 4 years....like some kind of Olympics, but with trucks.

2006 -> Went (had to rent a Jeep but it still counts!)

2010 -> Time to go again! Trying like crazy to get the truck finished so I don't have to ride shotgun, or rent another Jeep!!

Geoff, you can check the dates for previous years but I don't remember it ever being as early as August, at least not in recent memory. It seems like it's always been a September deal....

You may be right. Maybe it was in October one year?

My work schedule is switching to month to month rather than 4 weeks. So I just need to know the month.

Just in watching the dates from the last several years they keep moving the dates, it started in october, then it move to the end of september, next it fell on my birthday and this last year it was before my birthday. Going by their trends i would guess early september.

Looks like the BBQ/Raffle/Awards is Friday night and not Saturday night. So that means we could leave on the 11th and be back home in CA on the 12th.....if we wanted to.

IMHO the best way to do this trip is weekend to weekend. When we did it in 2006 and we left on a Wednesday and got there Thursday and wheeled Fri/Sat/Sun and left on Mon and got home on Tuesday I felt like we drove WAY too much and wheeled WAY too little (4 days driving and 3 days wheeling...whats wrong with this ratio?). Doing the weekend to weekend thing means you get a nice 5 days of wheeling and you get some time to unwind in between the brutal 10 hour days of driving to get there. This year is going to be even more tiring as I'll have the camper on the back of the rig and a 15 mo old hellion in the back seat. I better start saving up for more JD right now.

I seriously don't think this was operator error. If it broke when Ken was driving then it couldn't have been op. error. Cause we all know Ken drives like an old man!!!!! :tongue4:

bggrnchvy
12-29-2009, 04:25 PM
I wasn't suggessting operator error was the reason for the last transmission failing. I was simply suggesting not beating the new one in it's most vulnerable state with big weight behind it going up Tehachapi's or the like;)

Esteban86K5
12-29-2009, 05:03 PM
LOL.....if it's gonna break....it's not gonna be in Tehachapi. That would be too easy. Nope, it would have to be in Moab when we are 750 miles away from home.

01-14-2010, 11:34 PM
no i have had Black Betty for a few years now. I normally use her for my annual bike ride in Iowa so i figure a quick trip to Moab should be no big deal.

Havent looked at the 1008 yet, been busy on the tow rig and the crawler.
I am thinking of just dropping the 208 and installing the 205 i have, but it needs a rebuild. So while im rebuilding it i still dont know if i want to go with a lomax or 203 doubler, they seem to be about the same $$ investment.

On the tow rig i got the motor pulled and wiring started on the new motor/trans combo. This weekend i'll tear into the 4L80e to see what is amiss so i might have it back on the road in enough time to drive it to texas on the 28th.

On the crawler i got the rear links welded in and then finished the truss on the front axle. unfortunately i need to cut the rear lower link support for the driveshaft for a little more clearance.

thats about it, you should stop by and work on my trucks for me. I could use the help. :p

Actually its kind of a dog going up hills. 3 speeds and they are all the wrong ratio.
Fortunately all the passengers dont seem to care, they are too busy playing beer pong, foosball or some other game that would be boring without the addition of adult beverages.

Im reserved for the 5th - 11th but dont know what space i got yet.

As the date gets closer i'll know for sure but it looks like i will have room for people and luggage if others need a ride. I will likely only have 3 or 4 people onboard so there is lots of space available. I'll be mountain biking and dirt biking earlier in the week so if anyone is bringing a moto and knows their way around i could use a guide.

It's a one trip deal if you have the right paperwork, can cite the section they have to lookup to do it (it has instrucitons for even the dumb) and know the magic words so they aren't trying to create a new vehicle registration.

$51 every 2 years is pretty nice comparitively. My non-op for the Chevy says reg would have been $302 for a 13 y/o 1/2 ton truck. Nice CA, nice.

Sounds Like I need to tow you trailer queens with my K5 back to camp :tongue4:

Chain a trailer to something on the other end...Just thinking out loud

Speaking of trails? I have this book that has all 50 of them listed.
I know Gold Bar At the top is a MUST for me!

We'll figure it out. It shouldn't be too tough to find a solution that will work, even if it takes a little bit more time.

Are we still camping out there? I'd like to.

If we didn't want to leave our rigs out there overnight, which I particularly do not want to do, we could drive out there (either end) unload and take the trailers back to SlickRock and catch a ride back with one of the street legal rigs.

Everyone wants a night run; well let's run trail both directions and make it a combo day and night run. But this time I don't want to have to walk all night with flash light trying to find trail LOL. I say we all light up our rigs and go for it; I've been wanting to add more lites to J's Limo.

That reminds me to get a backup tow strap for pulling you again. Flash light trail blazing, towing Cracker, walking over a rock where you cannot see anything ahead of you, etc.; that’s what great memories are made of.

me likey that idea. That's exactly what I was thinking.

Nate and I keep saying we're going to, but we haven't actually sat down and started going through what days are what. I would absolutely love to have convenient vehicle 'issues' that force us to spend the evening out in the Utah wilderness.

Getting the tow rigs back to camp for the night would be most excellent.

Put this on the list of items to discuss while hunting coons in my back yard or driving to pick up milly.

Tow rigs back to camp, Trifecta both ways skipping all the dirt roads at the end, and camping out in the sticks(or rocks) sounds f$&@ing AWESOME!!!!:mrhumpy: Can we leave now? At 55mph and stopping every hour to stretch would put Ken and I there by Sept.

What's the word Kevin, RB, and Jason? You think you can come along? If you can do without your rides for a few month's I'll tow them out when I come, some how. :poke:

There's a G/N car hauler at the Chrome Shop Mafia for sale for 6200. It may be able to carry 3 K5s. Then put my trailer behind it and we could get everyone out there. Nate how do the club funds look?

I think you guys will have a great time and that will give me a couple of days to disconnect from the trailer and Truggy so I can see the town and surrounding areas. I can also load a bunch of you in the dodge and shuttle to and from camp as needed. Just make sure trip is not Friday and Saturday - Friday is the Bar-B-Que and Saturday is Gold Bar Rim w/ CK5.

So do you guys have an updated departure, arrival, and wheelin schedule??

IF I can pull this off money wise and still have at least three vacation days come Sept. ,I may be able to pull this off.

I guess I would be making last minute reservations or just showing up and seeing what I can get because I wont know whats up til August some time.

For me, my camp reservation starts on Sept 6th Monday, I think some are arriving on Sunday 5th.
My plan was to use Saturday 4th to pack up & load up..get some rest and hit the road WAY early Sunday morning like 4am, arrive some time Monday 6th morning/after noon ish to Moab..wheel Tues Wed Thurs Fri head back to Cali Sat 11th after pack up and get home some time Sunday.
This is a work in progress plan so...not solid.

So that is Sunday to Sunday gone and Monday is a Holliday so only 4 days vacation are needed...

I'll gladly take credit for that. I'm planning to leave on Saturday with Nate and whoever else is caravaning then and arriving Sunday afternoon/evening (9/5).

And what if I cant get in at Slick Rock?

Where else is there to stay around there?

There's another camp ground right next door to Slickrock that's, as I hear it, more accepting of boisterous activities and late night shenanigans. I don't remember what it's called though.

So I just sent Slick Rock an email for the 6th thru 10th.I need to leave Moab the morning of the 11th around 7 or 8am and should be home around 9pm.

I guess I will talk to Mrs.Frizz about this when she gets home :p

<O:p</O:pDamn, I leave for an absolutely crazy bachelor party weekend up in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comhttp://www.norcalbigdawgs.net/ /><st1:PlaceName alt=</st1:PlaceName>South <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Lake</st1:PlaceType> and I come back to this.

<O:p</O:pRight on!!!

<O:p</O:pGlad to hear you’ll be making it out Frizz. Now we just need to get Jason out there……<O:p

</O:pKyle had it correct, we’re leaving the bay area on the 4th and getting there the 5th and then leaving for home either the 11th or 12th. Not sure which route we’re taking though. With Cracker and Co. not in Vegas anymore and Team Willyswanter not heading out there on the 5th I’m not sure if we really need to go the southern route anymore. I actually thought the <st1:Street w:st="on"><st1:address w:st="on">Northern Route</st1:address></st1:Street> was a little more scenic. Something about driving through the Salt Flats of Utah watching the sun rise and the awesome mountains south of <st1:City w:st="on">Salt Lake City</st1:City></ST1:pl was pretty damn cool.

<O:p</O:pGuess we need to figure out which route we’re going to take….we’ve got some time though.

<O:p</O:pWho else is leaving the 4th besides Kyle and me?

From CK5 - Trifecta is scheduled for Saturday the 11th

The “Trifecta”: Poison Spider Mesa-Golden Spike-Gold Bar Rim (Difficult)

From CK5 - Trophy given out at Bar-B-Q the night of the 10th

Jason Payne Innovative Truck Trophy

After the sudden passing of Jason Payne in August 2007, some of his friends within the ColoradoK5.com website community wished to begin a yearly award in his honor. Jason was a regular attendee of the Blazer Bash event from its beginning so it was only fitting to honor his memory with a trophy presented each year at Blazer Bash. Jeff Perkins out of Las Vegas, Nevada spearheaded the project by designing and assembling the trophy.
Jason was always modifying and improving his truck, with a new, innovative project in planning at all times. The Jason Payne Innovative Truck Trophy is meant to honor that progressive wheeling spirit in others. Each year, at Blazer Bash in Moab, Utah, the participants vote for the vehicle they feel most embodies an “innovative” truck. The traveling trophy returns each year to Blazer Bash to begin a new year with another innovative truck and owner.

we're leaving early the morning of the 4th. I'm guessing (hoping?) we'd be on the road from the bay area between 6am-8am. If we take the northern route (which right now I'm pretty sure we are) we'd be going "that way". So it's conceivable we could meet up with you. THe con is off hwy 50 and we'd be on hwy 80 so you'd have to make your way over to meet us. Worst case, you could meet up with us at our stop for that night in Wendover NV.
