No didn't have too...it kinda fell apart I guess you could say. It's off to Scotty's for a full rebuild now. Thanks for the shoe box Nate

How much is a rebuild kit again?

Well...my cost was something like $40.00. You do need to know what year the gear box is from since there are 3 different kits.

Couldn't tell you what year...

Well...actually if it is the metric gear box with the O-ring fittings then it is pretty much narrowed down to 2 different kits but i'm fairly sure it will be the same kit as mine was. :thumb:

I want to say 1978,or 79

could it be a 77?

Well, if it is anything other than a 1980 second design or newer your power steering lines won't work with that gear box. 1980 first design and earlier used the flare fitting lines and 1980 second design and newer used the metric O-ring fitting lines.

Before we (Nate pulled it) got it. We made sure my lines would work. So maybe it was early 80's. Nate will chime in tomorrow.

I will drop it off on Tuesday.

Um….yeah…….Eric’s box was sloppier than originally anticipated and after tapping it during the clean up process it decided to fall apart :( . My guess is from too much previous use and the shear size and depth of my tapping tools :p . So, it was torn apart to facilitate a complete rebuild and to make sure that Eric’s box would never be sloppy, loose, leaky or otherwise deficient in any way…thereby providing years more of happy box usage. :mrhumpy:

Yeah…had a small problem that made us take the box apart. The worm drive gear on the inside slipped out some and the 25 ball bearings that the gear rides on decided to fall to the bottom of the box…..oh what fun. So, time to tear it apart and let the PS box rebuilding guru (Scott) have a go at it. This was my 5th or 6th box I’ve done and the first time this ever happened….definitely a learning experience. Pretty much felt like an ass. But…luckily…Eric and Darren were their to give me tons of shit and to not let me forget what a tard I was. It shouldn’t be too bad to rebuild it, and Eric will have a brand new box once it’s all over with. As far as what year it came off of…I want to say it was off of an early 80’s pick up. I know we confirmed that the lines (flared vs o-ring) would work prior to removing it.

My favorite line of the day….as I’m attempting to fix it/tear it apart…..”Eric…this isn’t a big deal…I can fix it for you. Holy shit…what does this do…oh man….where did this come from.” Yep…good times…..

Least we had some good bbq lunch and the beer was cold.

Just goes to show you……I’m great at tapping boxes…..just not so good at telling you how they’re built or putting them back together once I’ve done my tapping!!!!!
