So what would I get in trouble for if my front sheet metal was tapered? Like Jasons rig or how my blazer was.....

vehicals over 1000 lbs. must have fenders.
make some quick release fenders for the street

It would have fenders....just the front of them would be 7 inches farther in then the rear.

At the very least you will need some sort of mud flaps.. :2thumbs:

People tell me this all the time about mine and it sounds idiotic to me. Why would you need mud flaps with a tapered front? The width of the fender behind the tire is the same as stock! So what is the coverage difference between stock and tapered? Nothing.

I was thinking the same thing. Which was leading me to think that the only thing the could really bust you for is your tire sticking more then 2 inches out. Cuz even if measured from the back, where the fender is in its stock lcation, it would be sticking out farther then 2 inches.

Yeah but thats the same if your tapered or not. I never got in trouble for that, only no flaps in the rear. Bako is 90% hugely lifted superduties and chevy's on 40's and 44's so the cops are pretty used to them and the tires sticking way out. But they still want mud flaps.

If I start getting shit I'll have to ask the warden for a tow rig. :p
Word on the street is the K1500 won't be my DD anymore, at least in a few months. :D

I would hope so cuz a tappered front ifs rig is kinda pointless. IMO :p

So should I go grab one of the 60's I know about and start swapping? :)

So does that mean no more 6 bolt 14bff hubs?

I run my rig on the street and haven't got busted yet. It's just a fix it ticket. Hot rods and prowlers are open wheel, they don't get screwed with. If you don't have mud flaps in the rear you'll get pulled over, but if you do and have all your lights working they leave you alone, at least in my experience.
I got passed on the freeway last year coming back from FR on 580 by CHP and the dude just looked at me and smiled. CHP are pretty chill most of the time, its that jackass street cops that you have ot worry about...like here in Milpitas. I get pulled over every time I drive the dodge down the street. They just ticked the Toyota to get out of the street too. Something like an its too ugly for our town ticket. Moved it into the driveway. :flipoff2: Milpitas

You don't say? Even if I'm just going for the "look"? Hey- at least I have a front driveshaft. . . there are plenty of D60s being wasted out there.

Let me check my finances after this phase. I'll let the warden get a check or two under her belt before I bring it back to you. I am going to link the front so any driver's drop HP will do.

That is a good question. It is pretty cheap to put 6 lug hubs on a 60 so I may just do that.
I do have my pretty Weld rims already, granted they won't look great after some more rocks hit them, but that isn't a concern. If I convert the front to 6, then I'll save myself the cost of rims. Then I would end up running internal bead locks. Which I'm guessing is another $900 or so.
I will have to find a way to get my current disc brakes out of harms way.
If I could sell the 14 bolt hubs for a decent price, I could just convert the back drum, buy some regular ole bead locks.
Needless to say it would be easier to convert the front to 6 lug. The truck would be better off going back to 8 lug but I don't know if what I'd be adding in strength (essentially steel vs. aluminum) is worth the cost.

Well with the 8 to 6 to 8 thing, you can sell those hubs with the brake setup for probably around $500 at least I'd say. Then you could sell your still purty rims for what? another $500? So thats a grand right there. Then you can convert the rear back to 8 lug for basically free since people are throwing out there drums brake setups daily and I have the old 8 lug hubs. So then you get a grand for new wheels which you could get some nice aluminum real beadlocks. Or buy some hmmwv rims and have an extra $400 to spend on my labor.

/\ He has some good points. I would get rid of the pretty rims for something that you could beat up and not care about. Why do you need to be blingy if your going to trailer it?

its not just the gay area where cops like to pull over trucks because of But the point about city cops is true. CHP isn't as bad if you have rear mud flaps and arn't acting like a stupid idiot. The city cops like those in modesto love to pull them over. That's the reason i have the gay lookin rear mud flaps that can be removed for going on the dirt. If trailer who cares? That's why I am working towards that then lower the truck and narrower tires. Then no problems with cops. I live in tracy and have had no probs here but hide when going into Mo' town.
