I rebuilt and drilled and tapped my box recently. Joe (kidjethro) has a couple pics that you could look at. Here is the link. http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=160735&highlight=kidjethro
After looking at the pics if you have any questions just ask and i'm sure i could help you.

The lower fitting needs to be in the line of the oil path that runs from the end of the gear box up to the front, if you look at the steering shaft side you will see a ball bearing that is crimped into the end, that is the passage for fluid that you need to intersect. Also you will need to take the box partially apart in order to drill and tap and upper fitting.

Yeah, but i could do it without making your steering box fall apart and requiring a full tear down and rebuild. :flipoff2:

Looks like you can do this all with the box on the truck...?

Taking it apart, drill, and tapping is not the hard part. Getting all the shit back together is.

IMO those caps are a joke. I have heard of the top adjustment plate breaking because there just isn't enough "meat" on that cap to be drilling and tapping for a NPT. The snap ring on the bottom plate is easy to remove, there is a small hole on the edge of the steering box that you push a small punch through to get the snap ring out of the groove.

OK, I'm open to either.
And on the top cap - mine has the extra beefy unit made by AGR. Looks like that made that part good at least.

I still would not use those places for tapping for hydro just simply because of location alone. The bottom plate puts the fitting in harms way in a big way unless you make some kind of shrouding and the top plate puts the fitting near the sector shaft gear and weakens the plate like i said.

My success rate on these is 5 to 1, so I’d hardly say I’m failing :D . Eric’s box just gave me some problems  . I will continue to offer up my services for free (for anyone brave enough to ask now). Of course, Scott is the club’s resident guru and has knowledge regarding the rebuild and assembly of the box that I do not. :uh oh:
Good luck.

So what you are saying is that you are good at tapping the box, but scott is better at the upkeep and possible rebuild of the box?

Eric, you're being too hard on Nate, afterall it was Nate who convinced me to drill and tap my own box (was easier than trying to hook up with him). I did however jump in head first and just said screw it, going to do a full rebuild while i'm there (if i can figure out how) even made some of my own tools for the project in the middle of it all. :thumb:
